Lightening damaged my laptop

Yesterday due to a heavy lightening my laptop isnt working any more. At the time, every cable was plugged in alomg with ethernet cable of ext.broadband modem. The modem also not working- no power is coming to modem. Laptop, when i am pressing the power switch, switching on but then nothing happening- no booting no sound though light of optical usb mouse is on. I have an acer 4720 with 5months of warranty left. But in W.card i saw natural disasters are excluded. What to do do now ?? What might be the possibility ??? Will my Hard disk be ok, i have alot of data stored.

Please advise me what should be my steps to get it repaired ??

Take your laptop to the acer service centre and just say them that your laptop is not starting up anymore. You should add that there were frequent startup problems, it would shut down itself midway, etc.etc. Don't ever mention them about the lightning. If they don't figure it out, then you are lucky, your lappy will be repaired in warranty. Else, real problem. But don't worry, most of the cases, there is no external damage and they will think, that there is some faulty component

Give it a try. Show them your real frustration about how irritated you were with the laptop since you had begun that problem.

I'm afraid the only thing you can do is to give it to a sevice centre and be ready to bear the cost. But there's a fair chance that your hard disk survived.

One of my clients' desktop computer was struck by lightning via the LAN port some years ago. Only the motherboard was damaged and everything else was OK. I replaced the mobo for him and everything was back to normal. I found out much later that only the ethernet chip was damaged. No other part of the motherboard was damaged. There is no guarantee that the limit of damage will be the same in your case, but at least there's a good chance that not everything was destroyed.

it was repaired. they didnt figured it out. but they have replaced the dvd writer which after 2days not working at all..

get a surge protector asap... i have the APC portable surge protector. it is supposed to protect me from all kinds of power problems..

+1. Use this with your lappy. If anything happens, it will be the surge protector damaged. You can replace the surge protector for a lot less compared to replacing a whole laptop. You can't get lucky for the second time you know.

Anyways, lightening doesn't strike twice at the same place. So be sure to use your lappy where it was damaged.

Thanks, for the info. I never knew such things exist. I asked the acer care representative about how to save lappy from lightening. she said "never use it during rain/thunder"

btw, after they replaced my motherboard the system info on bios and directx diagnostic tool shows like this...
