laptop keyboard problem

I have a strange keyboard problem with my HP g42 LAPTOP.

certain keys like i,k etc not working occasionally.

is it a hardware problem needing new key board.?

a usb key board is working fine as it is not a software issue.

any help/guidance would be highly appreciated.

Get your device to service centre and get the keyboard check if it is under warranty it is good for you & also try and see driver is up to date or not.

Explain your problem clearly.

From what I feel, you just have turned your num lock key off, and in keyboards without numpad, numerals are bound to the keys you mentioned. I may be wrong though, so first explain your problem exactly.

thanks for the views.

my laptop is 2 years old and as such no warranty.

thanks for the opinions.

it seems there is no number lock in my laptop.may be ths function of num lock is assigned to some other keys. if so how to identify the same?

my lap s not in warranty. problem is not seems to be related to drivers as everything is fine with a usb key board, which i am presently using.
