Hi guys!

I want to buy a new Desktop PC and my budget is about 30K without a Monitor, printer and a UPS. So basically the budget is for a CPU, Mouse, Keyboard, Speakers etc...

My requirements are as follows...

Intel Chipset Motherboard with PCIe Graphics Support, Onboard Sound, Display & Network Card...
Intel/AMD Dual Core Processor HT (Which ever is better)...
512 MB DDR2 RAM
PCIe Graphics Card (Not Very Costly One) Should support latest games atleast...
DVD Writer
80 GB HDD
1.44 MB FDD
Keyboard & Mouse
Cabinet with decent Power Supply...

I heard that Intel Core 2 Duo is the best these days but I am not sure if it will fit my budget. Kindly give me the best configuration that can come with my budget and if possible, with their price also. Incase if a Intel Core 2 Duo doesn't fit my budget, please mention its rate along with the rate of its motherboard also seperately.

As I dont want to compromise with quality, kindly include all branded products only.

I have one more doubt... As per my knowladge, the speed of single core processors used to be calculated in GHz like 3 Ghz. etc. How is the speed of a Dual Core processor calculated. I would also appreciate if you could include a few links where I can learn more about Dual Core Processors.

Thank you.

Intel E6300 Rs. 9700
Asus P5LD2-VMSE mobo Rs. 5000
1 GB Transcend DDR2 667 RAM Rs. 4500
Sony DVD writer Rs. 2100
Seagate 80GB SATA HDD Rs. 2400
Creative SBS370 2.1 speakers Rs. 1200
Logitech keyboard+mouse Rs. 800
VIP Cabinet+400W PS Rs. 2000
FDD Rs. 300

Total Rs. 28,000

I have given whatever you asked for but it's really difficult to fit a graphics card in the budget after spending 10k on the Core 2 Duo processor. You can't take less than 1 GB RAM as it will seriously cripple the processor.

If you want a graphics card spend about 2000 bucks more so that a Radeon X1300 or a Geforce 7300 can be added for about Rs. 4000. This will allow you to play all games (although at low resolutions). If you feel you need a better graphics card, I will give you a cheaper alternative to the Core 2 Duo processor but I don't recommend this.

Well......I feel u should save money on the processor and get more ram and a better gfx card...

3500+...............6500
Asus A8N-VM CSM......4500
Transcend 512X2 or 1GBx2.......4000-8000
XFX 7600GS for 8k....or a 7600GT for 12k
atleast a 120GB hdd...or 160GB.....2500-3000
Sony DRU 820A or BenQ 1650.....2500
Zebo or VIP caby+SMPS.....2.5k-3k

If u want a dual core than get a 3800+X2....for 9k...good enough...

I have one more doubt... As per my knowladge, the speed of single core processors used to be calculated in GHz like 3 Ghz. etc. How is the speed of a Dual Core processor calculated.

Well.......dual core speed is also in GHz......everything remains the same except Dual core processors have 2 cores and separate cache for each core...

If gaming is your main requirement then take the rig recommended by samrulez. But for everything else the rig I recommended will be better.

Gaming is important but I would always prefer going for the latest and the fastest processor. I dont mind spending another 2K if I can fir in a good graphics card along with.

@drvarunmehta : Is Intel E6300 the best Dual Core available. What is the speed of it in GHz. and how much L2 cache does it have.

The E6300 is from the latest Core 2 Duo series of processors. It is better than the Pentium D series and most Athlon dual core processors (except some that cost twice as much). It has 2 MB L2 cache and runs @ 1.86 GHz (I know it seems less, but it's really fast). There are faster processors in the Core 2 series (E6400, E6600 etc.), but they cost quite a bit more and aren't easily available.

Read this review of the E6300 to see how it compares with other dual core processors.

If you want a graphics card, some of the options you can consider are:
Geforce 7300/Radeon X1300 (less than Rs. 4000):
These will run all games although at low resolutions.

Forsa Geforce 7600GS Rs. 6700:
This is quite a decent card and can play all games at 1024x768 minus fancy effects like AA/AF/HDR.
