A friend of mine is getting a new rig.
Use: Maya 2011, Sony Vegas, after Effects, etc and HD movies. NO GAMING. (other than Angry Birds & super meat boy :p)

Referring to config from the guide i suggested:
Mobo - Intel DP67BG - 8500
RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws 2x4 1600 DDR3 CL9 - 5000
HDD - Seagate 1TB 7200.12 - 2700
DVD - LG 22x Sata - 900
PSU - Corsair VX450 - 3500

Total - 20.6k
Budget - 45k

From the remaining Budget what should i suggest - (Processor & GPU)
1. Intel 2600k + Sapphire HD 6850 1GB = (16k + 10k)
OR
2. Intel 2500k + Asus GTX560 Ti Direct Cu II = (11k + 15k)

Need a reply ASAP.
He will buy this rig from Nehru Place, New Delhi. A week or 2 later.

more Info :
monitor, mouse, keyboard, ups, speakers - Already have.

OS - Win 7 ultimate 64 bit

Ok a Non k-series processor then..
Besides a locked multiplier, i hope there is no other difference what so ever.

Also, I forgot to mention. No multi GPU setups present or future. coz what i know, softwares like maya, after effects etc don't scale up well with SLi or Crossfire.

@lordirecto: budget for GPU + Processor = 26k

What are the prices of (non k series) Core i5 2500 & core i7 2600??
Had it been a gaming rig i would have gone for a better GPU eyes closed.
Basically what i want to know is what should be considered more important for animation..?
Extra GPU muscle
OR
Extra processing power (hyper Threading)???

i5-2400 @9.5k (i dunno whether you'll get a 2500 in india)
i7-2600 @15k (according to priceindia.in)

Both are needed. However GPU is the heavier component regarding that.

Prices are, I am telling all non-K proccys,
Core i5:
2300- 9,200
2400- 9,700
2500- 10,250
Core i7:
2600- 14,900

All these prices as quoted in smcinternational.in

An animation oriented computer can go for a Quadro or Firepro GPU.

So here are some of the GPUs you can look at, click on the following link.
Workstation Graphics Cards

I think a i7 2600 is required as you need to make a lot of computation when you are rendering. And an equally powerful GPU that you can narrow down in the above link will do the trick for you.

Look at ATI FirePro V4800 specifically, as it suits your budget.

You will end up with a total of around,
i7 2600 - 14,900
ATI FirePro V4800 - 11,000

Total - 25,900
