Is my HDD Crashed ??? Please help !!!

I have a 160 GB 7200.baracuda Seagate Internal HDD on my desktop, lately I faced an issue where the booting stopped at "Verifying DMI Pool data..". It was an issue related to the power supply to the HDD . . I changed the cord and it started working.

Few days later same happened and this time it did not boot. After few minutes of wait and blank screen,an error appeared error1.jpg related to boot manager which said to insert the OS disc and repair. When i tried that booting from CD even that did not help.

I tried the startup repair and other options stated in menu 2.jpg. But did not work as it could not find any installations of Win7.

In between this process, once i tried installation of Win7 and it showed my partitions, thinking installation of OS would solve my problem i did an installation on C: as the data in my other partition are extremely important. The installation took more than an hour but after the installation, it did not boot again and the same error of boot disk failure occurred.

After trying all the options and thinking the issue maybe with the SMPS or MoBo, i removed my hard disk and connected it to my friends machine just to get the data out of my hard disk. But I could not see the partitions on his machine too. From this i can sense that the Hard disk is crashed which i would not be worried much about, what matters to me is the data from other partitions as it has many crucial documents related to my admits and exams which I want to recover by any means.

To mention, during he boot process where the drives are detected i can see my hard disk detected along with the CD-Drive but wonder whats the matter.

I am equally dead as my HDD since i cannot find a solution to get my data back.

Can someone please suggest a way to get my hard disk up and running or atleast how should i recover the data ???

I would be really greatful by your help and inputs.

if the HDD is getting detected do a scan with seatools for Dos .. use the bootable CD version .. fix any errors that it finds and to recover data use MiniTool data recovery, Easeus data recovery or test disk - if yu need professional help ( but may cost you a lot ) use this :
Data Recovery Services in India for Hard Disk, Server, File - Data Recovery Services

I wonder how much would these people charge for pro recovery of simple but important personal data :(

@topgear - thanks, ill try your suggested option and get back with the results, hope it works for me.

To recover the data i tried the easeus data recovery tool on my friends pc, but since the partitions were not seen it did not work

Any idea how much can it cost for me to recover the data say just 20GB of the entire disk ???

Sad and painful it is to lose really important personal data :(

ultimate boot CD contains many system diagnostic and repair tool .. you can make a bootable PD or Cd with it to boot the pc with and start the recovery/scanning process of ram/hdd etc. but as you need to recover data you better use pro help ( paid of-course ) or if you are going to do it yourself use friends pc and connect the problematic HDD - install any kind of recovery app on the friends HDD and start the recovery/scanning process.

Now easeus was unable to recover data - don't worry - try Test Disk or Photo Rec ( available on the same website ).

BMG ftw!!
Recover the data and from now on, run any HDD which have important data in it inside RAID 1 array. It is cheaper than data recovery cost.

I think I would go with the Pro help. I am fearing that i have tried atleast 50 times and it may not have damaged the HDD already.

Anyways stellar guy had called and said that i need to submit my HDD for a day for them to analyse, they would then inform about the amount of data recoverable and also the cost. The analysis is free of cost, if later i do not want to go ahead with the recovery process for any reason say cost then i can take back the HDD. Sounds good to me and I think I'd try.

I am totally unaware of the "RAID" way.

I tried Seatools for dos but it gets stuck at a command line - InitDisk . . which I found out to be related to the FreeDOS.

This is pretty frustrating now . . :pullhair::banghead:

let's see how much Stellar guys asks but there's offer is very reasonable IMO.

Anyway, if for any reason you want to experiment with the HDD more then connect the HDD to your friend's pc - use seatool windows version/ HDTune ( also make sure the HDD is running in IDE mode in Bios if it's a Sata drive for better compatibility ).

RAID 1 is a kind of setup, where user use 2 same HDDs to hold same data. THose HDDs mirror one another.
Advantage: If one HDD gets corrupted, the data remains in another one and you can replace the corrupted HDD with a new one and the data gets auto mirrored again.
The chance of both the HDDs becoming corrupt is very very low- statistically and practically.

Thank you, I would get some information on this.

I wish i could have done this earlier . . anyways i would do this now once I get my hard disk recovered as of now.

Also, i am planning to get a new machine built . . would get this thing done.

Or probably a simple way by not keeping the imp data on HDD henceforth . .
