1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans:Gaming, internet and some school work but mainly only gaming.i'll play games like nfs, assasin's creed, cod, battlefield, fifa 12

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans:45 to 40k

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans:i don't know much about overclocking. currently i'm not planning to, but if its a really big advantage i will get it done

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans:windows 7 64bit. any version

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans:500 gb atleast

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans:yes. 19.5 to 22 inch. 1366 * 768

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans:OS(win 7 ultimate 64 bit )

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: april last week or starting may(2012)

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans:no i've never built a pc and probably get it done by an assembler

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: I live in yamunanagar (small city near ambala, haryana). i'm planning to get it online if it is cheaper

i dont need speakers and UPS and also i'm planning to go for a mobo that can help me croossXfire or SLI in future.

i was thinking of something like this
i5 2500 ~ 11700
asus p8h67 - m mobo ~ 7500
AMD radeon hd 6770 1 gb gdrr5 ~ 6750
g.skill ripjaws 4 gb ddr3 ram ~1660
Corsair CMPSU-500CXV2UK 500 Watts PSU ~ 3380
seagate barracuda 1 tb hdd ~ 5300
ASUS optical drive ~1100
cooler master elite 311 ~ 2200
belkin wireless combo ~ 1200

the total equals about 40500
that leaves me with about 6k for the monitor

suggetions will be appreciated

If you want your rig for gaming and also want Multi-GPU setup in future then Intel is a poor choice at a budget of 45K. The P67 motherboards available at 7.5K don't have either two PCI-E X16 slots or have in X16-X4 setting. Now at X4 speed, Nvidia SLI is not possible and CF performance is also not that good compared to X8-X8 scaling.

I'll suggest you to get an AMD based rig and a good Graphics card. Here is my suggestion:_

AMD Phenom II X4 965BE @ 6.4K
Biostar TA990FXE (AMD 990FX 3 PCI-E X16 at X16-X16-X4) @ 8.5K
G-skill RipjawX 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3 @ 1.5K
MSI N560GTX-M2D1GD5 (GTX 560 OC) @ 10.7K (from smc)
LG 22X SATA DVD R/W @ 0.8K
AOC 21.5" LED 1080P @ 7.1K
WDC 250GB Blue WD2500AAKX @ 3.7K
NZXT Source 210 Elite @ 2.3K
Logitech MK200 @ 2K
APC 600VA @ 2K
Logitech Z313 @ 1.6K

Total 46.6K. If you buy all the things from a shop then price might be lesser as street price is normally lesser for computer peripherals.

Now if you consider CPU performance wise: Intel i5 2400 is the clear winner and there is no doubt about it. But if you consider gaming then the AMD based solution is more mature. It has a good GPU, a high end feature rich motherboard with Crossfire and SLI support, high overclocking potential and support for AMD FX and upcoming Pile Driver.

For applications like Internet surfing and some school work...you won't feel any difference between a i5 2400 and Phenom II 965. And in 1080P and higher resolution, GPU matters far more than CPU. So a 965+GTX560 is a better choice.

I really don't wanna go for AMD.This will be the first assembled pc i will be using and want something i know about. i've never used a pc with amd and none of my friends has. Any way I am thinking about the following rig

Intel 3 GHz LGA1155 Core i5-2320 Processor
Price: Rs. 10685

HIS AMD/ATI Radeon HD 6790 GPU 1 GB GDDR5 Graphics Card
Price: Rs. 9296

ASUS P8H67-M Motherboard
Price: Rs. 7526

WD Caviar Blue 500 GB HDD Internal Hard Drive (WD5000AAKX)
Price: Rs. 4329

Corsair CMPSU-500CXV2UK 500 Watts PSU
Price: Rs. 3611

Cooler Master Elite 311 Mid Tower Cabinet
Price: Rs. 2190

G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 4 GB (1 x 4 GB) PC RAM (F3-12800CL9S-4GBXL)
Price: Rs. 1665

HP dvd1260i Internal Optical Drive
Price: Rs. 1028

total 40000 approx. leaves me with 5-6k for a monitor. If i get the power color
6790 it gives me 1000 extra. The mobo allows me to crossfire but does it support SLI? . SUGGETIONS PLSSS.......

Any AMD chipset, other than C90FX or C90GX series (where C= 7, 8, 9) will only have X16+X4 setup. Only GX and FX series provide enough PCI lane to go for X8-X8 or X16-X16 Multi-GPU setup.

If you are in overclocking and multi-gpu setup, want a lots of features then 990FX is the way to go.

BTW, Vedant in Kolkata are keeping Asrock high end boards based on 990FX chipset. They have 990FX Fatality @ 11.5K and 990FXA extreme at 9.5K. Will post the pictures soon.
