Intel C2D E4400 or AMD X2 5000+ ????

I am having AMD Sempron 2500+ system which is quite outdated in this age, I am considering an upgrade. After lots of reading, surveying and considering my budget, I have zeroed down upon two systems from both Intel & AMD platform in Rs.5000/- range

Intel - Core 2 Duo E4300/E4400 or,
AMD - Athlon X2 4800+ or 5000+

I feel that though C2D's are much better in performance to its AMD X2 counterparts, but still if you compare them on price front then (similarly priced) AMD X2 5000+ can be pitched with C2D E4400. Here X2 5000+ can be better in performance to C2D E4400.

Am I right in my conclusion? Please share your thoughts.

In this case..I will suggest Athlon 64 X2 5000+, which is a dual-core Athlon 64 running at 2.6 GHz ...1MB, 800MHz. packed with advances such as HyperTransport technology, an integrated DDR memory controller, Cool'n'Quiet and Enhanced Virus Protection for Microsoft Windows XP SP2.

E4400-->>Intel Core 2 Duo processor with a frequency of 2GHz, 800MHz FSB, and 2MB L2 cache.

But cache momory of AMD 5500+ is low.............


I dont have price idea of both....so, cant compare on price basis.Rather I will suggest you Intel C2D E6550 (Core 2 Duo E6550 (4MB L2 cache 2.33Ghz 1333MHz FSB, Rs.7,500/- )

if u wanna oc ur proccy then its better to go for C2D.
else go for AMD cuz u'll get good mobos with onboard gfx and oc capablities at cheap prices.

Thanks Ravi_9793 & Assasin for ur comments. At the moment it looks AMD X2 5000+ is a better bet than C2D E4400. My budget is maximum 7-8000 for mobo+proccy, so my priority is mid-range proccys and not higher end ones like C2D E6550 even though its my dream :)

You may also want to take into account the fact that C2D E4400 has a much lower power usage than X2 proccies both in idle condition as well as in max. usage.... Also, E4400 is supposed to be a very good overclocker...

go for AMD 5000+ and Asus M2nPV-MX mobo...
check the prices...But in ne case don't go for Jetway....they just put the sticker for model no. on the mobo. u won't see the name JETWAY newhere on the mobo as well as in the manual...

^^^ an oc'd E4400 performs like any top of the line C2D.X2 5000+ is no match for an oc'd E4400.

Yes the overclocking is very good in case of E4400. Of course with a good motherboard and RAM. I think you can overclock upto 35% without any problem with it.

^^^ 35% oc with a E4400 is nom prob.one can easily achieve 60-80% oc on stock cooling with a good mobo.

if u wanna oc ur proccy then its better to go with a mobo without onboard gfx.

that price was quoted to me by my vendor though he said he'll need to confirm the exact rates.
he said that mobo will cost bet 5 to 5.5k + vat.

In Kolkata, its around 7k + VAT for P5N-E SLi :D So beware either he doesnt know, or u are getting a real steal :p

its not me whos gonna buy a P5N-E SLi.my frnd is looking to buy that mobo.so i just asked my vendor.'newayz will confirm the prices after i reach Kolkata on the 11th.

Hi, I think the AMD X2 5000+ or even the 4800+ performs better than the C2D E4400, so keeping the point of Better performance for lesser price, please make sure you go for the AMD ones and certainly not the C2Ds for the price range you are looking at. Maybe for a higher price range, things might be different

I guess, this should be quite enough to convince yourself to go with the 4800+ or the 5000+ :D
