Hi friends,
can u help me to install WinXP Pro on a new SATA HDD, my MoBo is-Asus K8S-MX, SATA-HDD is-Samsung 80GB, RAM-256DDR/400Mhz.

I dn't have a SATA driver floppy, how can i identify SATA drivers from my Driver CD? there is a Folder in CD as- "FloppyImage" with following folders-"964_180" , "964plus180(181)" ,"965_965L"

Those folders contain drivers for Win 98 & WinXP, but how can i identify which drivers to take on floppy?

plz reply soon.

Hello,
Iam buying a new cpu and was thinking on going for the sata hdd.But seeing so many compatibility issues (redhat, mandrake does not recognise them) is it worth it?Will i have to wait for the patch before installing linux?

My to be cpu config is

Athlon 64 2800+
ASUS k8s-mx
80 Gb SATA HDD (Seagate)
512mb DDR 400MHz hynix
XFX fx5200 128 mb gfx card
iCabinet
Dlink int modem

This works out to be around 18k.I am a bit low on my budget, but what do u think of this config?

Thanks for helping.

The only time you need a driver floppy is if you use SATA Raid

Dump the K8S mx and go for the MSI k8mmv instead

debopriyo urs is SiS chipset as U have said .. so i'm not much sure of which driver will help ya exactly ... U can use the brute force method .. try them all one by one! .... whichever does ur part of work .... keep it! for future! ...

& rest others.... mates XP doesnt recognise SATA & ofcourse i'm talking of RAID involved ..... & U all who think SATA is detected or watever ... Y not debopriyo's XP didnt detected it! ... DID he got himself some special XP .... .... think! again

XP on SATA

Hey i beleive there's some option on the BIOS where u cld jus enable the onboard SATA controller n XP jus runs on that, nothin else's necessary. Else, u cld jus download drivers or summat from the net

Thanks for the help,
I was just wondering if i take my SATA HDD to my friends house whose motherboard has ATA, will my HDD work as ATA or will it not be recognised?
Hey, teknoPhobia, i did ask for a msi motherboard, but my dealer says there is a problem with the service, as there is no service centre where i live (Hubli). He said asus has a local centre hence that would be better!
BTW Iam going for a nvidia gfx card hence I don't think the sis chipset will be of much use(or will it?)

No, you cannot connect sata as ata. You will need a sata adaptor card if u want to try.
When u try to install on the sata, what does xp say? AFAIK, sata shud just work. You will need the floppy images only if u are going in for raid setups.
