Installing PHP 5.01 in Apache server 2.0

Hi:

I am able to install Apache server. I installed PHP 5.0. My problem is when I type PHP code as eg <?print "hello world !"; phpInfo(); ?>
I don't get the output. Can anyone please tell me how to install PHP correctly?I followed the instructions to install Apache & PHP form the book.
