Info and softwares for lan required

I and 4 of my friends have sify broadband (hi speed internet) connection.
Since the PCs of my friends and mine are connected to the sify lan I was wondering whether we could play some lan game. I got the ip address of my friend and then pinged it but no packet was recieved. Is there some way we can play lan games???

One of my friend used DC++ software for sharing files on sify lan with someone else.

I was wondering how he could do it since in my case i could not receive any packet.

Can u suggest some softwares for lan.

ping isnt everything

Ping is not always the final word on wether data is received or not over a network. The ISP would surely block ICMP over its network for added security.

You can try playing the game using your friend's ip-address and see.

Again your friend may not be on the same network as you. Sify uses lot of local cable operators to distribute its services. Each operator's network is different

That friend of mine had fooled me and had not turned his PC on. Now when I ping I receive the data packets.
