So I'm finally junking my PII 350 MHz based machine, and I would really appreciate your help in hitting upon the right components I should go in for. All I'll be keeping is my printer/scanner/webcam/keyboard/mouse/FDD/CD RW/old HDD for backup

I have no idea about prices, and they would matter when I suggest stuff to my dad, so as far as possible try to give an estimate.

Do suggest brands/models for:

processor I want AMD

motherboard I hear an Asus motherboard would be best?

RAM DDR, 256MB... 512MB would be great though

HDD 7200rpm. SATA would be awesome. 80GB should suffice.

soundcard I have a half duplex one right now, heh. Which one should I go in for? I listen to music with my PC a lot, and I have it hooked up to my music system - will there be a tangible difference in quality?

video card - I'm not a gamer. I use Photoshop and now that I'm getting an upgrade my bro would be using 3DsMax, Maya and stuff. A decent video card..?

Perhaps onboard stuff be good enough for the soundcard and video card?

ATX cabinet / SMPS I got no ideas.

DVD drive no idea

Can I get this much in 25K? Or is it completely inadequate. I also need....

monitor I want 17". I don't think I want a flat screen since they seem to be too costly, don't really know though

UPS APC best?

Thanks a lot, guys

You're right, I was asking too much. I looked around...

How much would it cost me for

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ / 3500+

Asus K8V. What's the difference between deluxe and non-deluxe?

Hynix DDR 512MB

Samsung 17" non-flat

Seagate 80GB SATA 7200rpm

ATX w/ 350W SMPS. I really have no idea which company.

APC 500VA / 600VA
