On Windows Vista, for me atleast Firefox 3 latest 21 march nightly trunk sux right now.

Feature wise my IE 8 beta installation is as tweaked as my firefox with extensions. They both support 99% same features now so the choice is between rendering speed & look & feel only.

Rendering speed wise firefox is better then IE 8 right now, but I can live with .2 nano second delay in IE 8's rendering of a page, however the look & feel of firefox on Windows just sux right now.

In IE 8 I can enable cleartype for HTML. Now I have a CRT monitor so system wide cleartype looks bad on my monitor. Despite of this I can enable in IE 8 cleartype for the HTML rendering only which makes reading things very easy. On the other hand in Firefox there is no such option, & I either have to live with non Cleartyped text in firefox or with system wide cleartype which looks bad on my CRT monitor.

I mean, comon.....IE 7 had cleartype for HTML since ages, safari too has it... I don't know about Opera, but why isn't this in Firefox 3 when they have a new rendering engine & Cairo Support.

The memory usage has improved, thanx god....

The new Vista-ish theme sux. Period. I expected something better like the mock ups from Mozilla.

when you will enable clear type for windows from

right click- properties - effects - advanced

enable smooth font rendering and select clear type from the list

then your firefox will also show that rendering

Isn't that what I just mentioned in my post???

If I enable clear type using this method, it enables cleartype for my whole computer & UI. Now HTML in firefox looks better, but rest of the text in any application looks bad in my CRT Monitor, cos ClearType isn't exectly made for CRT Monitor.

If I disable system wide cleartype then firefox's text looks crap.

IE 7/8 or Safari 3 is better then Firefox in this regard. They have there own clear type engine independent of the OS settings.

At least this is what I expected in firefox 3. Now don't say "Upgrade to LCD" or "How many people use CRT Now??"

Here is the screenshot of this very page in both Firefox 3 latest nightly built & IE 8 beta. Just look at how bad the text looks in firefox. Cleartype is disabled from system control panel, & IE 8 is set to use cleartype for HTML

Strange that I am not having this type of problem with cleartype in FF3. I am using beta 4 and by default it is rendering the page with cleartype enabled. I am also using a CRT (Samsung SyncMaster 798MB+). I do not know why are u having such problem with your CRT
