I want to add some RAM to my super-old PC.

So I have this horrifyingly old PC, (P4 3.0GHz, 512 RAM, old integrated graphics).

I need to stick with it for some 7-8 more months. So I thought I should add some more RAM to it, since I'm tired of doing programming in a sluggish environment, and am tired of using workarounds like using lightweight-alternative apps.

Here's the CPU-Z thingy:

So, if I want to have like 1GB RAM total, what do I need to buy?
Would it be better if I get a 1GB stick, and use it alongside my current 512 stick? Is it even possible, given the current model/type/whatever?

Aid me, good people.

just buy another 512MB of ddr2 ram but i doubt you will able to find ram of 266mhz looking for second hand ram will be your best option.and don't spend too much on this PC.

That was Cilus (and one Copy Paste by Me :D).

And yes don't waste money on this Config. Save up and Upgrade later.

I am guessing you're trying to run something with that extra memory .... i think it won;t work. Just save for your future upgrade.

I myself had a similar config until July , messed with the Thermal compund and now it rusn [ yes it still runs ] at 90 C Idle , 105 C at load [ load means Firefox :D ]

As i said , save for your upgrade. Or if you are doing fine with your current PC , keep using it , adding RAM won;t change anything.

Nah, I don't have any hardware/heating issues. Just paging, I'm guessing. Like if I have SharpDevelop open (alternative to Visual Studio) and also have a browser open (K-Meleon - alt to Firefox), it can sometimes take a while to switch between them. And even while in SharpDevelop, sometimes things slow down during switching files, or during compile & run.

I thought a wee bit more RAM would help...

Or I may just bear with it a bit longer(been bearing it for years, anyway) and get a proper rig later, as suggested.
