Since we are talking about HDDs and I am about to get a new i5 PC, what should I look for in the HDD, apart from capacity? RPM et al?

@bippukt.

7200rpm is the defacto rpm for HDDs in the market.
look for capacity, buffer (32MB should be good).

if you are good at things like setting up RAID etc, you can look at getting two 500Gb HDDs and setup RAID which is much faster.

Thanks for reminding me about the cache. I am not good at RAID, so I think I will just buy a single 500 GB or a 640 GB HDD. I will also keep my older 160 GB HDD, and if possible, I will keep my oldest 80 GB one too, for as long as it lives. The CM Elite 335 or Antec 200 should be able to handle them :)

Will keeping the older HDDs slow me down? Or should I just junk them and keep everything on the new HDD?

If u r in Big City then get WD , If not get SEAGATE !!

Because of warranty time

I know this is not my thread, but could you elaborate upon this point?

WD service centers are not available in small towns or cities (less service centers) - so it takes more time

Seagate is popular brand in india as for their warranty they make it quick for their brand name in india

is it ok
