The most reliable hard disks that I use were of Seagate, but, ironically, the worst ones also were Seagate. That was because there are so manyyyyyyy seagates around. Now and then I also see Hard drives like samsung, western digital or IBM, where the failure rates seem to be even higher.
I am using a 10GB (4 1/2 years old), 3 20 GB and 2 40 GB (3 1/2 years old), another 40 GB 2 years old and a 1 year old 40 GB HD, all of Seagate, out of which only one 3+ year old 40 GB developed bad sectors, but still working.
Seagate is now giving a warranty of 5 years.
