How to increase performance- Core I7 960P

Hello,
Recently I have assembled a PC with the following configuration.
Intel Core I7 960 P
Intel DX58S0 Motherboard
2*4 GB DDR 3 RAM (transcend - 1333)
2 TB HDD
MSI 8400GS Card (512 MB DDR2)
Windows 7 64-bit

I still find the computers performance is not upto the mark( Tested by running high end softwares) . I compared the results with an I5 processor + same configuration (Laptop and Desktop) and could not find any major difference in speed.

I appreciate if anyone can advice me on how to improve the computer performance.

Thanks,
Ram

Welcome to Digit forum. What are those High end software's? Can you please name some? Your GPU is kinda odd with that spec though.
BTW- How much did the i7 960 cost you?

Remember One Thing Even If u have i7 980X , U wont find difference between i5 760 neither i7 980x , The timing is the matter when u open an application-time taken to open the application & processing time is considered , where u ll see the difference !

Well Use any video compression,Winrar archives , video conversion in these kind's application u ll sure see the difference !
GOOD LUCK !

Be more specific about the softwares you mentioned...

Get a new graphics card as the one you have is very low-end...if you want significance increase get a good GFX..

which cabby do you have?

Bond, Desi Bond!
well u have a very powerfull processor.. u need to change graphic card first...

btw how much does ur complete rig costs u?

why would he need graphics card for vmware?

@OP, I think the problem here is with the mobo. This mobo, if I am right doesn't support hardware assisted virtualization which is why your vmware env is not getting required boost. Anyways, look for an option in your BIOS to enable VT and see if there is any performance gain.

yep HW virtualization is a big boost.

I am running VMWare WS on my laptop runs very good. my config is core i5 with 4 GB RAM.
You should have checked mobo support for HW virtualization.
