stick with the hosts file method. and make sure to make it 'read only'

In case of Internet Explorer, do try this out:
Code:
-> Go to Tools and select Internet Options.
-> Then in the security Tab.
-> Select the "Restricted" sites button.
-> Then click the "sites" button.
-> There add the site which is to be restricted.

Set the url to 127.0.0.1 in the hosts file... EDIT: Instructions for this are available at *www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Note that setting a site as restricted in IE will not help if someone tries to access via Firefox/Opera (which are now available as portable versions)...

And if I include all the websites that I wanted to block into the Windows Host file, will it work irrespective of whether I use IE/Firefox/Opera ?

Note :I'm not asking about restricting the sites on a specific browser.
