I am planning to get the new machine next week... after a 1 month wait and talking to a lot of Digitians i have finally halted on this config...

Intel Q6600
MSI P7N Platinum (wish Diamond was avaiiable... also waited for XFX 780i but heard it gets hot too much and had no other suggested board so though of this one... intitail budget for this was 15k but no choice availble)
MSI 8800GTS OC 512MB (thought of 2 512 8800GT but i was suggested to get 1 GTS instead)
2 X 2048 Corsair DDR2 800MHz ( thought of 4 X 2048 but dont know if it will perform or not)
Corsair VX550 PSU ( desperate to get this but not available... might cosider CM 600 Watts )
CM Elite 330 cabinet (dont know if 690 will be availble or not in Kolkata)
Samsung Lightscribe DVD writer ( any suggestion)
HDD 250GB ( any suggestion)

I have 200 + 80gb PATA HDD and a Sony DVD writer already... using a 17" samsung syncmaster but will get a Dell 22" in next 2 months...

main purpose of the machine is gaming and 3D works...

Please suggest..

Wow....you are spending so much money on a computer dude.

Don' buy the lightscribe DVD writer, u won't be needing it. Stick to your Sony DVD writer.

Buy Western Digital Cavier SE WD2500AAKS SATA 2 Hard disk with 16 MB Buffer. Use those PATA harddisks in a external 3.5" HD casing for use as a external Harddisk.

Isn't 8800GT better option than 8800GTS?

Don't go for Dell 22". Go for 24". not much difference in price and you get fullHD only with a 24" display.

a small suggestion ,
if u can afford it 2 8800 gt with sli are much much better that 8800gts ( i think a single 8800gt is almost equal to a gts)

8800GT performs better than 8800 GTS. *www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3140&p=7

Get the ASUS/Gigabyte cards. Much more reliable when compared to XFX's.

I wouldnt buy the 780i board.
If you are not going to do SLI, get P35 or X38, much better options.
780i is nothing but 680i.

Go fro ASUS STiKer Motherboard or IP 35 Pro or Go for X38 Motherboards and Blastix RAm 80 Mhz
Intead of Q6600 go for Peryn 8200 pr 8300 or 8500 ( 45NM processor )
PSU : Coolent master 600 W

I want to get a Quad core... the reason why u said that might be that Q6600 can be overclocked to 3.4 but a E8400 can go upto amazing 4.2 as i have read... but i want to go for Quad core as 3D max uses 4 cores for rendering... even the games present now a days dont use 4 cores and 8400 can give better result... but in future games will definatly use 4 cores...

any suggestions guys

I dont want to go for 450watts...

Dont go by the rating, its nowhere close to the local cheapo ones you get.Its a solid one.
I am using one in my Main PC, works like a charm.
Your call though.

please verify, many r not satisfied with q6600, i dont know why. suggesting e8400 unable to provide reason.
Reason is not many applications are optimized for multicore CPUs. Ones which can harness the available CPU power, really benifit with Quad. That is the reason sometimes Quad shows lacklustre performance.

i am not going with the ratings... i need minimum of 500 watts... with 3 HDD+ 2 Writer+ 1 GTS+1 Quad Core processor i will definately need a good PSU... also might use the same if i decide to go for SLI... i will be using MAX and MAYA which definatly uses the multiple cores

ok, nice config indeed!
MSI 8800GTS is a good pick and will outperform a 8800GT.
Regarding RAM, did u search for other brands like Patriot or OCZ or G.Skill ? Regarding PSU, IMO u should be better off with a CM Real Power 550W PSU ! It should be an ideal choice. Going with a lightscriber writer doesnt make any sense unless u are going to give CD/DVDs ur own trademarks! :p And regarding motherboard, i would say, go with a MSI P35 Platinum. P7N Diamond/Platinum is just another board with a nvidia 780i chipset and supporting 3-way SLI configuration. Plus, i heard that the board has issues with lower Quad's multipliers. Look, you are spending that much on config, then it would be good if u go for a solid performing Motherboard, i.e. Platinum P35! :)
