How does RSS feed work??

I read about this RSS Feed feature in the general section of this forum and its sounds very interesting. Please tell me how to use this feature? I have absolutely no idea how or what it is so please explain it to me in detail.

Hmm... My choice is FeedReader (Byte suggested me that ) .. .. Previously I was using Abilon ... Both are great softwares ..
