Right off the assembly line
1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans: Architecture & Graphics, 3D Renderings, Walkthroughs (Autocad, Revit, 3DSMax), Gaming the latest ones Battlefield 4 and the latest but not much though.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 50-60K

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: Not really, if its possible in the budget may be welcome.

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans:Windows 7 x64 (I just get lost in Windows 8)

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 1TB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Intially planning to use my 32” TV as monitor but when I imagined myself sitting 2’ away from it, I refrained. Will get a 22”/24” monitor whatever fits in budget.

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: No Component Available

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans:In Less than a Week.

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans:Yes, used to do it a few years ago. I do plan to assemble on my own.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?

Ans: Delhi, I am price specific, so if better priced I may shop Online as well.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: Confused between an AMD/ Intel rig for my requirements. I have read through a lot, following the forum as well, but still not being able to decide.

The following 2 Rigs I have compiled after reading through the forum:
Option-I
AMD FX 8320 – 10200
Asus M5A97 R2.0 - 7000
Corsair Vengeance/ XMS3 (4GB x 2) 1600 Mhz - 5870
ATI Sapphire R9 270x 2GB Dual-X - 15000
WD Caviar Blue (1 TB) - 3450
SMPS (Seasonic S12II 520/620) - 4300 (Any cheaper versions? Value for Money)
Cabinet: Deepcool Tesseract - 2700 (Any cheaper versions? Value for Money)
Dell S2240L (22” LED) - 9000
Logitech MK200/ 220 - 800
APC/ Cyberpower (800/ 1100 VA) - 4000 (Approx budget)
Asus 24B5ST DVD RW - 1100
Wifi Adapter – Tplink WDN4800 - 700
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - 2600
TOTAL - 66090

Option-II
INTEL I5 4440 – 12800
Gigabyte B85M –D3H - 7000
Corsair Vengeance/ XMS3 (4GB x 2) 1600 Mhz - 5870
ATI Sapphire R9 270x 2GB Dual-X - 15000
WD Caviar Blue (1 TB) - 3450
SMPS (Seasonic S12II 520/620) - 4300 (Any cheaper versions? Value for Money)
Cabinet: Deepcool Tesseract - 2700 (Any cheaper versions? Value for Money)
Dell S2240L (22” LED) - 9000
Logitech MK200/ 220 - 800
APC/ Cyberpower (800/ 1100 VA) - 4000 (Approx budget)
Asus 24B5ST DVD RW - 1100
Wifi Adapter – Tplink WDN4800 - 700
TOTAL - 65290

Need help to decide on the best one according to my needs and future provisions as I am utterly confused. Would be better if I can limit the configuration to Rs. 60000. I will definitely try Online Vs Local Shops as well to see if I can save 1000-1500 there.

Also, any suggestions of good local shop in Nehru place or anywhere else in Delhi?

@op, get the amd config. get asus m5a97 Evo r2.0 mobo and Seasonic S12II 620.dont forget to get a slightly expensive cpu cooler. it will help in better overclocking and hence better results than an i5 for your kind of works.

+1 for this. You can skip the UPS, optical drive to bring it into your budget.

Thanks.. looks like its 2-Intel/2-AMD for my configurations... Confusion doesn't end here at all :-o..

I currently live in an area where power outage is frequent, the electricity goes in normal-inverter mode frequently. So skipping the UPS might not be a favorable option. Although not used much, but I can look at an external optical drive whenever required instead of installing and hardly using this one.

rijinpk1: This is exactly my mobo for AMD config. (Typo errors) Seasonic SII 620 maybe good but do I need the extra 100W on my PSU for AMD.. this is going to add another 1k on the same.

Since OP is more onto rendering etc AMD rig is better choice.

(OT : Why not FX8350 instead of 8320 ?)

Well I recommend Nividia card. Since AMD not support Opencl many renderer not support AMD cards .

If you dont do GPu render then buy powerful CPU atleast amds 9series cpu also buy atleast 16gigs ram

Note: not opengl its OpenCl

opencl performance of amd cards are much superior to nvidia counterparts due to the GCN architecture. check benchmarks.

Options to choose from:
Monitor: LG 22EA53V 22-inch monitor Price 9000
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB Price 4000
Cabinet: Antec X1 Price 2500 or less
PSU: Corsair VS 650 Price 4100

have a look at AOC i2269vwm. no idea on this lg monitor though.
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB Price 4000
WD has better after sale service
Cabinet: Antec X1 Price 2500 or less
bad choice
PSU: Corsair VS 650 Price 4100
bad choice

the selected config is fine. anyway an overcloked amd config with fx 8320/8350 will be better than the i5 for your kind of works.

Thanks guys for the help.. I delayed my purchase as i thought prices of computer components were decreasing after budget-2014. At least I don't see any much changes so far. Have been working on the final configuration in the last 2-3 days, this is where the confusion lies:

Processor: Intel I5 4590/ Intel Xeon E3 1230 v3 13500
Guess from my limited knowledge! Intel Xeon is basically an I7 without a Graphics Card which works well for me as I will be already using a dedicated GPU for all my stuff. Is there any problem in using the CPU for Gaming Vs. CAD/ Video Editing/ Rendering? when compared to an I5/ I7

Mobo: Gigabyte B85M-D3H/ Asus B85M-G 5300/6300

Any basic difference between the 2 mobo's as price difference between the two is about Rs. 800-1000
Any advantage of using a 4000 more expensive GIGABYTE Z87-MD3H in this config?

Memory: Corsair Vengeance 4GBx2 1600MHz 6200
I feel 8 GB RAM would be helpful in my config

GPU: Sapphire R9 270X 2GB DualX 14000
Asus Direct CU II Top R9 270X 2GB 16000
Again difference of about 2000 when the basic Card is the same. Need suggestions of maybe reducing the spec of GPU if it of marginal 10% performance difference.

HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB 7200 RPM HDD 3500

PSU: Antec VP550P 3500
Corsair CX 600 4200
Cooler Master Thunder 600W 4000
Seasonic S12II 520W 5000
I am getting really fidgety on the budget as the increase never seems to stop. Need something which is value for money. I will be putting in a UPS, so I am lesser worried about power fluctuations/ burnout etc.
Cabinet: Cooler Master K281 3500
Deepcool Tesseract 2700

CPUCooler Cooler Master Hyper 212X EVO 2500

Monitor: Dell S2240L (Univ Choice) 8400
AOC I2260 VWM 9700
Advantages of AOC over Dell is 2 HDMI Ports/ Lesser Response time (5 vs 7)/ very thin bezel/
Advantages of Dell over AOC is Lower Power consumption

KB-Me: Logitech MK220 1100
Only 300 difference between wired and wireless. Will opt for this if it is not a problem.

UPS: APC Back UPS 800VA 230V 4300
DVD: Asus 24B3STt 1100

A couple of other accessories:

Wireless Adapter: Need suggestion which one will be good. Internal Card/ External USB

Currently System is again crossing 72k when I thought I should be able to retain it under 60k. Any final suggestions from the experts shall be highly awaited.

The system as mentioned shall be used to run Autocad/ Revit/ Navisworks/ 3D Animation & Rendering (Frequently)
Heavy latest Games/ Video Editing (Lesser but yes!). Will finalize in the next week itself based on suggestions..

Many thanks for the valuable time

get Intel Xeon E3 1230v3 over i5 4590. and some xeons comes with igpus.....
get gigabyte if you wanna save some bucks.it is 1k cheaper and features are almost same. if you are willing to spend extra, get msi z97 pc mate at 8k. it is compatible with upcoming boradwell cpus. get Sapphire R9 270X 2GB DualX . you will save 2k. or else consider r9 280/gtx 760 for around 17k-18k.
get seasonic s12ii520 over other psus mentioned.
since you are dropping the overclockability, you dont need a 212x. get tx3 evo or antec a40 and save some bucks.
another advantage of AOC i2269vwm is that it comes with all the necessary cables like hdmi/dvi etc and which costs. ;) dell comes with only a vga cable. also somebody got a quote of 8.2k for that aoc monitor here.it has a Displayport too,i think.
