I suggest you go for an Athlon 64 instead. The XP series is being phased out, and A64 systems are the future. Prices of lower A64's are now comparable to that of XPs.
1.my vendor says not to choose athlon as it tends to get hot and rely on intel
Earlier Athlons tended to get hotter than P4's but that was a long time ago in terms of computer development. Recent AMD processors actually run cooler than Intel CPUs.
2.while installing any os or while booting sys via a bootable disk will i have to install any xtra drivers for the cpu or the sys will run as on intel
You have to install drivers for any chipset or device, whether AMD-based or Intel-based. Some drivers are automatically installed along with the OS, while others have to be installed separately.
3.my vendor also says that athlon tends to get damaged soon and its service in india is not good
I've assembled many many computers based on AMD CPUs over the years and only ONE has failed. That was long after the warranty period was over, and the computer had been subjected to a lot of abuse. OTOH, I've serviced many Intel systems too and quite a few processors had failed.
4.plz suggest a suitable mobo ,i'm wnt to go for an asus
The Asus A7N8X series (there are different versions) are good and there are also good motherboards for Athlon XPs made by other manufacturers. But as I said at the beginning, it's much more advisable to go for 64-bit Athlon 64 systems.

If you need help choosing a configuration for an A64 system, state your budget and your intended use of the computer.

The main reason (i feel) vendors push for Intel is bcos they get a better undercut than on AMD.

Go fr Athlon 64, its really good.

Look at Intels recent product and u will find a straight copy of AMDs innovation.
Today in terms of INNOVATION & TECHNOLOGY AMD is the KING

That one CPU was subjected to more than one kind of abuse -

1. It was used without a UPS under wildly fluctuating power conditions.

2. It was used with the back of the cabinet very close to a wall, without leaving enough space for ventilation. In fact, the owner had already damaged the monitor signal cable because it was pressed too hard against the wall. It was also hemmed in at the sides by other furniture.

3. It was an Athlon XP 1800+ based on the earlier Palomino core that did tend to get rather hot. It was kept in a dusty environment and the owner never bothered to cover it even when when it was not in use. The CPU fan and heatsink fins had become choked with dust, providing a much reduced cooling level. In fact, the original thermal compound had melted and actually flowed down and dripped out.

4. Some self-proclaimed 'expert' (not the owner) had deleted the hardware monitoring/protection software.

Even then, the CPU might have been saved if the owner had brought it in earlier. But he kept using it for several days after the computer started crashing occasionally due to overheating, restarting it again and again without any respite.

The one positive thing I can say about this guy is that he frankly described everything without trying to make up some silly excuse.

@techmax : Pls state how much the 20k is supposed to cover.

If it's for everything including the CPU, monitor, speakers, input devices, etc., it won't come to much of a system, especially for gaming.

If it's for the CPU box alone including hard disk, RAM, etc., it may just be possible to squeeze in an entry-level 64-bit gaming rig.

If it's for only the processor and motherboard, 20k still won't buy a top-notch pair, but you can start thinking about having a good system.
