Hi fellow TD rs . Plz help me configure my 1 st PC

Requirements/Applications :

1 No gaming ( hardly )
2 Office work - like accounting s/w such as TALLY etc .
3 Watching DVDs ( n sometimes recording/burning )
4 Internet ( surfing/mailing/ downloading)
5 Music (listening mp3 s etc )
6 Budget not a big constraint but wudnt want to splurge .Want value for
money .

Configuration that I've decided :

1 processor - AMD athlon 64 x2 3600+ ~ 6500
2 mobo - MSI K9NGM2 ~ 4400
( onboard graphics , AM 2 board )
3 RAM - 512 MB Transcend DDR2 667 Mhz ~ (not checked)
4 Hard drive - Hitachi Deskstar 80 GB ~ 2400
5 Optical Drive - Lite-On-SHW-1635S ~ 2400
Dual layer DVD writer

6 Monitor - Samsung CRT monitor 15 inch ~ 4000
7 Keyboard - Logitech k/b + mouse combo ~ 800
8 Speakers - Creative SBS 370 ~ 1400
9 Case n
Power supply - VIP/Blues/Iball -400 watt psu ~ 1500

* I 'm giving the link for yhe mobo , so that u can check out its
features n dispell some of my doubts .
( shud I go 4 Asus M2NPV-MX / M2NPV-VM )

1 I dont really think that my use pattern warrants Core 2 Duo 6300.(does It ? )

2 biggest confusion in mobo . I have chosen MSI K9GM2 becoz
it is cheaper than ASUS M2NPV-MX / M2NPV-VM
IT has firewire ,SPDIF-Out/ SPDIF-In connector , TV-Out connector.
Not now but sometime later I would like to use it for home theatre .

3 would later ( say 6 months ) pair to 2*512 MB (=1 GB - vista ready )
667 MHZ becoz someone said for dual channel 667 works better
( 533 not good @ him )

4,5 ,7 , 9 - No confusion , almost settled . If there is anything significant do tell me !

6 Monitor - right now I'm not going to be home , its needed only for
net surfing by Mom n Dad n replying mails.
Later ( 6 months ) . I wud switch to a 19' LCD
(viewsonic or samsung)
So going with the cheapest option now .

8 Speakers- right now only Mom is going to listen to music ,
mostly old 60 s - 70 s songs . 2.1 shud be sufficient
now.

* Graphics card - dont need now .
* Sound card - onboard .

********** Since I'm new to it Plz tellme what all softwares n
programmes I shud get loaded for my use .
Or anything special which I need to watch out
or be careful about !! ??

1. No. ur requirement does not need a c2d. If its value fro money, then ucan carry on that system for 2-3 years n add sm light gaming afterwards.
2. MSI is good enough except for da fact dat it is micro-ATX. if u dont understand dat, it means that it is in a compact form factor. Simply put they space savers albiet with less space. So rather go for an ATX mobo. If u r not going to add more than an 7300LE n a sound card at most, its OK!
The ASUS boards lack optical audio(spdif) but have wi-fi. So take ur desicion as to vot's more imp. 2 u. go for GA-M55plus-S3G from gigabyte. OR see other models from them. People say gigabyte is rubbish but it is a pretty cool company if u ask me.
3. right. 533 is worse than my p***. 512*2 ok!
9. if u ask me, i'll tell u to go for nothing less than 50-watt. Try n get an iBALL benz if possible
all other's wwell. the sohw writer should be only 2000 coz i bought 2years ago for 2900

Well , as I understand , One needs high end graphics cards for games. ( correct me if I'm harbouring wrong notions ).

No one at my home is gonna play games . Maybe watch movies occassionally .So , I think , onboard graphics ought to suffice .
If needed I will use a low end graphics card n maybe a creative soundcard .

Do u think this can be done with this board ?

Sound is important n hence I'm graviating towards MSI K9NGM2 .

But if Asus board is far superior n stable then I wont mind going for them .
Wud use a high end sound card then .

What do you recommend .?

1. You don't need C2D for your usage.
2. The MSI K9NGM2 is better than other mobo's in the same segment. It's definitely better than the Asus M2NPV-MX.
4. Why spend 2.4k and get a 80GB HDD when 500 bucks more will get you a 160GB one?
5. The DVD writer is about 1900 bucks not 2400.

i am also an intel FAN, but,, i prefer to say make a better change in harddisk which is an quite essential for you ,, since when u have a listening music and dvd burining things,, u intially be happy,, but later on u cant have space much ,, since u will dump more and more data later making dvd burns,,, and copying things for music listening.

just try to grab an 160GB as minumum requirement for dumping also.
