A easy solution is system restore.Restore your windows XP to best known setting.

Log on as Administrator-->>Start-->> All Programs-->> Accessories-->>System Tools-->>System Restore.

click Restore my computer to an earlier time-->> Next-->> select best known configuration-->>complete rest steps-->> a restart will be asked.

After restart, your problem should be solved.

My system restore service is turned off already so it will not help.

Start -->> Run-->> type regedit and press enter-->>Windows registry editor will open-->>Now navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes

Make sure the value of these two are as follow:
MS Shell Dlg -->> Microsoft sans Serif
MS Shell Dlg2 -->> Tahoma

If it is not..than set the value to that....restart ....should solve your problem.

Thanks ravi

Here is what i did

By opening the Fonts folder, select all the fonts, copy them, and paste them to a new folder. Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts. (MY FONTS KEY WAS MISSING SO I CREATED IT)

Highlight the key and press DELETE. Once the key has been deleted create a new key to replace it, by selecting Edit/New/Key and name the new
key [Fonts].

Restart the computer, then re-install the fonts by opening the Control Panel, double-click on 'Fonts'. And from the File
menu select 'Install New Fonts...' adding the fonts that were previously copied to the temporary directory.

My desktop icon fonts was still using the SYSTEM font so i reapplied the windows default theme & the problem is solved.
