Hai

I have a P IV system 2.0 GHz, 128 MB RAM, Mercury Chipset Mother board, 40GB HDD with OS as Windows XP. The problem is the system is too slow and it takes too long to even start a Word or Excel file. Our system engineer suggested to format harddisk and reinstall the OS. Even then the problem continues. The engineer does not have any answer for this and he suggests to format it again.
Please tell me a suitable solution to overcome this problem.

Do u have a lot of s/w installed ?
plz disable the startup services u dont want in "msconfig" of run menu...

Alsso try defragging ur HDD and Diskcheckup.

if u have an option to upgrade plz go to atleast 256mb ram, coz it is good for XP to run...

It's your RAM. 128MB is the bare minimum for XP so if you run applications that are slightly memory intensive, then the system has to use HDD space as virtual memory which is much slower than actual RAM. One way to improve performance is to add more RAM. And yes, repeated formatting is not the answer. If formatting once didn't help, it probably won't help if you did it again.

If u have heavy load on harddisk mean also result in slow(example : 38/40)so to avoid just remove unwanted thing. And just go for another 128 RAM to boost ur speed.

Hi udhaybhavan ,

these are the possibilities of slow speed

1) Very less ram
2) Overload of softwares
3) Less Paging memory
4) Bad sectors on HDD

To cure these do this
1) get a good system performance boost software

i recommend Dr. salmans window power tools 4.7

or get system mechanic
www.iolo.com

2) do scandisk
3) do defragmentaion of the hard disk
4) clean up the system tey useless softwares
5) cleann up the uselse on startup softwares from
the msconfig

Thanks
Regards...

use a system cleanup program first ,then use a program known as EVEREST
which will guide you to increase your system speed according to your hardware configuration
