Hello,

I'm interested in buying a soundcard for my aging computer. These are the specs:

AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+
KM266-8235 (VIA P4M266)
768 MB memory
Asus 6200 (AGP)

I listen to a lot of music, watch movies and enjoy gaming to the extent that my computer can handle. If anyone can suggest a soundcard and the price range it falls into it would be really helpful (My budget is around Rs. 2000).

Thank you...

Unfortunately I have never even heard of the " Creative Activa 5.1 ". A search on google did not give me any reviews.

I had been to SP road (Bangalore) where the dealers are selling all the X-Fi's, for lower end they have the Creative Live! 5.1 (900) and also an Audigy 7.1 (1400). I wanted to know if using these cards will be an improvment over the onboard audio that I have in my system and also which of these two would be the better buy.

Hope someone has the answers...

Thanks again..

Any more suggestions? Would be really helpfull...

Thanks...

You havn't told us of your speaker setup. For 7.1 obviously a 7.1 card, but else the 5.1 card. And yes there will be improvements cause ur mobo is old.

BTW-You can try these programs:
SRS Audio Sandbox(Not free)
DFX (Free)

Both are awesome, I'm at least happy with them. P.S.- Don't run them simulsatneosly.

About the activa card:

I'm very noob when it comes to PC things. Can someone tell me what is the advantage of having an additional sound card as compared to the one that comes onboard? Do we have any visible differences?
