Harddisk Detected but cant boot

i can see my hdd (not sata i think) 40gb, in bios setup n it is easliy detected at startup as seagate st34XXXXX....but on booting os xp loading screen comes for 2-3sec n system restarts....

i tried reinstalling xp but while partition selection it detects hdd and its size but says "setup cannot access this disk"....n does not display any partition....

wat can b done abt this?

my system is-
p4 1.8ghz @ intel 845GV chipset,
256mb ddr,
ati radeon pro 9200 series 128mb

and...

hdd is connected as primary master...
dvd rom is sec master
cd-rw as sec slave...

ps: i ve tried changing wit ide cables...its alwez same....

Your hdd may be devoloped bad sectors. Last week I the exact same prob with my sata hdd.
If ur hdd is under warranty ry to replace it or else download seatools and fix those bad sectors.

del all hdd partitions and then create new partitions but with diff capacities than b4.then try installing XP in a diff partition.

i too had same problem last month...
so i connected my hdd as secondary hdd in my friends pc and ran DSKCHK all the bad sectors are repaired ..
and now my sys is working perfectly

must have bad sectors in it..try formatting & reinstalling OS in other partition you have. Also it may be due to bad memory module & loose data cables...check it on spot.

it is the same prob as mine i got in a new hdd , (not even 1 month) i tried resetting the Partition table and MBR , i even tried repairing using chkdsk command . still no help ..

it is given 4 replacement now

when you get a replacement, check it in the vendor's site when it is sold out. some dealers hand over old hdd they have.
