I have vista , xp and Ubuntu 8.10 in my laptop. I recently reinstalled Vista . From that day The GRUB is gone . Only windows boot loader is active and showing an opton of selecting xp or vista . What to do to restore the GRUB ?
Dont panic!! Boot from Ubuntu Live CD or any Live CD for that matter.
Open a Terminal and enter the commands one by one:
sudo grub
find /boot/grub/stage1 (this will give an output where Ubuntu is installed, like (hdx,y), say (hd0,7)
root (hdx,y) [Change x and y according to the o/p of the above command]
setup (hd0)
hey man.....dont panic in editing grub in ubuntu. I have posted this in many threads before.
Boot into vista
Install easybcd www.neosmart.net
and add ubuntu to vista's bootloader.Thats it. No more tweaking for newbies.Enjoy!!
SuperGRUB disk is pretty old and I am using it for last 1-2 years. Its very handy in GRUB related problems and one of the must have CD for Linux users.
