graphics dilemma

Okay .. Im buying this dell 15R
But Im confused weather i should go for graphics card with :

DX 10.1 , Pixel Shader 4.1, Vram 1 gig
or
DX 11 , Pixel Shader 5, Vram 512 mb

for entry level gaming!!

but u have to give the model no.s before we suggest anything

I think Dell 15R has no customization feature. You have to go with Intel Desktop Graphics, that dell is providing.. if you are made up for 15R

the laptop is Dell Inspiron 15R Laptop (T540612IN8)
got core i5, 4 gig ddr3, 500 gb 5400rpm HDD...

i did som research myself .. found 550v is better in performance... but the other has dx 11 as only advantage..

trust me its all over the web.. and i got 50-50 everywhere.. im more confused

what kind of games do u play?
cuz if u play latest and greatest than go for dx11 card so that it can at least support games in your 4th year
otherwise go for the 550v which will give u better performance

As far as I know, the 550v is some old GPU (4000 series, maybe). If I were you, I would go for the 5470.

My friend also bought a similar lappy from Delhi...Dell (something)...core i5 2.66GHz...6 GB ddr3...7200rpm 500GB HDD...and mobility 5470 1 gb ...
i tested splinter cell conviction and GRAW2 at medium-high settings...1024x768 no AA no AF...
played more than fine....
so i suggest go for 5470...it will be future-proof to some extent..just keep the resolutions at low levels...

If you have a option go with 550v but 5470 has fabrication advantage. So, less heat.. and power consumption. But Raw computing power of 550v is much a lot higher than 5470.
