When asked for comment, Google told us that the feature had only ever been released by accident — that it was experimental, and that it could break some of the apps policed by it. We are suspicious of this explanation, and do not think that it in any way justifies removing the feature rather than improving it.1

The ability to turn off individual permissions for each app is surprising, since I only came to know it just now.
So, this move from Google is rather suspicious and alarming.

I was not able to flash 4.2.2 on my N7, and I think I would not even install it, until Google brings it back. :|

This was first made by CM as privacy guard in 4.2 and then when App ops came they improved privacy guard by integrating app ops.
Also it is available in 4.4.2 with a simple xposed module
