Google Inc. has complained to federal antitrust officials that the search tool in Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Vista discourages customers from using its own search utility, the company confirmed Sunday. Google’s complaint centered on Vista’s built-in desktop search software, dubbed Instant Search. Google, said both newspapers, accused Microsoft of designing Vista to discourage users from running its indexing and search software. Google spokesman Ricardo Reyes confirmed the charge: “The search boxes built throughout Vista are hard-wired to Microsoft’s own desktop search product, with no way for users to choose an alternate provider from these visible search access points. Likewise, Vista makes it impractical to turn off Microsoft’s search index.”

According to postings on Microsoft’s support forums, the only way to completely disable Vista’s search is to stop the Windows Search service in the Microsoft Management Console. Microsoft disputed Google’s charges. “We’ve been working with state and federal antitrust officials for the past two years to ensure that there are no problems with any of the features in Windows Vista,” said company spokesman Jack Evans. “These desktop search issues were reviewed at length with regulators prior to the release of Windows Vista and resulted in more than a dozen changes at their request.” Although I usually like everything from Google, they might little overreacted this time: isn’t it Microsoft’s choice which features do they implement in their own operating system?

Sorry if this was posted before...

I see right through you.
I think it's a complaint of monopoly. Just like what happened when people complained about MS's inclusion of IE in windows.

Wait wait, I think somebody at google needs to learn how to use Vista first

1) You can easily install google desktop search in Windows Vista

2) Just disable Search indexer service

Oh .. and what's with the anti-trust MS ordered into the Double-click deal? This one sounds more accurate a reason to file on.

First go & read the details of that deal. These 2 cases are no where releated. Use some logic harsh, is it not possible to install GDS on Vista?

Regarding doubleclick deal, howcome google bought doubleclick with a bid lower then Microsoft?

It is possible yeah, but why does everything require a circumvention to install? Now that's crap. Anyway, DoubleClick had MS as a client so I guess MS is valid in doing it :D

So that you don't accidently install a malicious application yourself. Now, you know not to install an application which promises to increse your internet speed 10 times, but the american...i mean average joe doesn't.

This is unbelievable. For God's sake, Windows Vista is Microsoft's operating system and they will do with it whatever they wish to. How is Google or anyone else entitled to any opinion in it? Microsoft has a monopoly because they marketed their product well and they deserve to enjoy their position. This is so weird. If people have a problem with something in Vista, stop using it. How can you just challenge Microsoft about something they have included in their own product!!

Nope..M$ shud support Apps usage where the feature is itself by default in Vista just in case People dont want to go with it:)
Eg: Vista and Google Search

In case Any1 Feels Google Search is best compared to vista default search then M$ shud support it without any tweaks or settings;)
