The problem of burning/melting out those adapters only arise if it is overloaded or is of poor quality(which is sometimes available locally),like in this instance *bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=51740.msg756030#msg756030.
One more thing,preferably connect those 4-pin connectors to separate PSU cables.That way the load is more distributed and is lesser on individual PSU cables.
