For Gaming its Dell XPS M1730. Starting price is 90K and check it out at the Dell's site for urself.

And If you dont mind the price and the weight (5.5KG!!!) and its so bulky...why would anyone prefer this to a desktop which can do something much better and costs 1/3rd of it?

Out of the choices you mentioned, I choose Dell XPS m1530

ASUS might be better I am not sure, but Dell has good onsite service and gives you peace of mind (I am not saying ASUS is bad..but I know about Dell for sure)

+1 for XPS M1530
but Asus has already started to ship their laptops with 9600M GT GPU which is anyday better than 8600M GT on XPS M1530, but the price for 9600M GT wud be higher, be warned. Dell hasnt yet released M1530 with 9600M GT in India. U can also wait for 1~2 weeks until Dell too starts putting 9600 in M1530.

XPS1530 is the best choice for gaming laptop.

XPS1530 shouldn't qualify as a gaming laptop since it has a m8600gt which is an underclocked, low power variant of 8600gt(which is pitifully underpowerful),but for 50K(or so) price it's the best deal u can get.For a good gaming laptop, one needs at m9600gt/m8700gt/m8800 gt,but these besides being expensive would also be v.power consuming requiring more powerful batteries, coolers in effect making the laptop much heavier. It's absolutely right, that a gaming laptop doesnt make sense as it's very heavy and considering performance/price is much lower than what u get for desktop, but some of us(who probably need to transport it many times) would have to go for that..

I think m9600gt would most probably support hybrid-sli and thus would have a much better battery life if implemented properly...

Bond, Desi Bond!
8600GT is more than enough to play most games on a 15" widescreen.

Moreover, there are laptops under Alienware brand that are for pure gaming. But they cost a bomb. XPS 1530 has perfect balance of price and performance.

thats because its a gaming laptop.
it has a huge 17" screen.
it has SLi GPUs and 4 gigs of ram.
it means PORTABLE GAMING.
desktops can't do that.

I know desktops make more sense than laptops for gaming, but here he specifically asked for a gaming laptop.

infact, XPS m1530 does not qualify as a gaming laptop. A gaming laptop is similar in power to a gaming desktop. m1530 is a "multimedia" laptop. its not meant for playing crysis in high resolutions with 16x AA.

If Dell ships M1530 with 9600GT then sooner we can expect M1730 to have Dual 8800GT in SLi or a 9800GT in it too. Moreover M1730's native screen of 17 inch supports Full HD resolution which M1530 doesn't has, its max res is 1280x800.

These are the default configs and as anyone can clearly see that in terms of gaming M1730 is better.

Have a doubt which'd be better 2 gb dual channel or 3 gb dual channel(asymmetric dual channel,2+1 gb) in terms of speed..would 3 gb be able to utilise the DIMM config?

there are options for 1280*800, 1440*900, 1680*1050{xtreme HD] for M1530 and price diff b/w 1280*800 and 1680*1050 is less than 5k. 1680*1050 is more than what u can ask for a 15.4" display.

@Hrithan
Dell dun allow less than 3GB on M1530. Only choices are 3GB and 4GB. The sales executive said so. Also as they are saying, the 3GB too is dual channel as the 965Xpress chipset allows nonidentical sized modules to run in dual channel.

My question was is the assymmetric dual channel as good as symmetric dual channel?(or is it worse, but 1 Gb would more than compensate 4 that?)

Get 4GB as price diff is only some 1.2k or somethin and no matter how much ram u have, vista can eat em all. So 4G seems to have better bang for the buck and future proof as its not easy to upgrade lappys.
