Fried Hard Disk?

Hey guys,

I just bought a new PC yesterday. And a couple of hours ago, I was just hooking up my Transcend Storejet 320GB external HDD to the front USB port and it didn't work. Then I switched cables and tried the back port and now it says the device is not recognized. Do I have a fried HDD here?

I kinda tried using the front USB port with another flash drive of mine. It stopped working too.

If it is fried, then is the data recoverable? Andy idea how much it would cost?

Thank you

Its a new PC bought yesterday so chances of faulty USB port is less....

@m3t4l_c0d3r: Try the External HDD in some other PC/laptop to verify dat HDD is working or not....

i am not saying that ur port is at fault but can be that the connection might be done wrong !!
try connecting a USB device directly to the rear port !! ( Mo-Bo's port )

Sorry guys. I wasn't home for a few days. And Merry Christmas to all.

About the prob. I dismantled my HDD, and hooked it up to the extra SATA cable that I had. And it worked. So the problem is with the thing/board that coverts the connection from USB to SATA. Is this thing available in the market? Its a Transcend product with a Samsung HDD btw.

Thanks guys.
