Here is the first taste of Firefox 3.0 Beta 5. Mozilla has made available for download a pre-release version of the next development milestone of its open source browser. According to the official Release Tracking & Schedule from Mozilla, the Release Candidates of Firefox 3.0 beta 5 have started being built on March 25. Following the code-freeze stage, Mozilla is now handing over to testers the pre-release builds of Firefox 3.0 Beta 5, with the final beta just around the corner by the end of the month.
"The upcoming Firefox 3 Beta 5 will include five new languages — Afrikaans, Indonesian, Mongolian, Norwegian nynorsk, and Serbian. Any help you can provide towards reviewing and testing these new localizations would be much appreciated. They will be available for download from the "all-beta download page" for Firefox 3 Beta 5," Mozilla revealed.
Upcoming is about all that the Corporation is ready to say about the delivery of Firefox 3.0 Beta 5. The open-source browser was deemed ready for the general users as early as Beta 4, with Mozilla pointing to the end of June for the finalization of Firefox 3.0. And by the time, Mozilla will wrap up Firefox 3.0, Microsoft would just reach Beta 2 phase with the development of Internet Explorer 8. As early as March 19, Mozilla also debuted the Extend Firefox 3.0 global developer contest focused on building new Add-ons for the upcoming browser.
"As we near the release of Firefox 3, the AMO team would like to share the plan for supported application maxVersions for Firefox add-ons and themes. The current supported maxVersion is "3.0b5pre". Once Firefox 3 Beta 5 is released, "3.0b5? will be added to the list and in order to support nightly builds, "3.0pre" will be added to the list as well. Upon release of the first release candidate (RC) of Firefox 3, we will add "3.0.*" as a supported maxVersion. A list of supported Firefox versions is constantly maintained on AMO. As a reminder, please test your add-on, extension or theme before claiming compatibility," Mozilla advised.
