fedora 8 problem....

Right off the assembly line
I formatted my Hard disk & installed Windows Xp & Fedora core 8.Now when I start fedora the services are loaded & after that it presents me with a black screen that says local host login.Why it is not booting into GUI.i tried logging typing login as root and password as root its says login incorrect.and i also tried logging as root and password i set while installation i get the same answer login incorrect..what may be problem...??? plz help..??

what is ur video card?nvidia,ati?also give the specification of ur system.
the GUI gdm is not starting becoz,it cant find drivers for Display!

i am not sure about the display ..but i guess its VIA/S3G DeltaChrome IGP..

when i type the login as root and password as root it says login incorrect...tell me what to do ....???

then u need to install via unichrome driver rpm from
*openchrome.org
VIA is one of the least supported graphics card,I myself owned one.
still Ubuntu supports this card by default.

I dont know about fedora.but,most probably fedora may have support for ur card.

below is the rpm(setup.exe like thing for fedora) for via driver:
*mirrors.usu.edu/fedora/linux/relea...ackages/xorg-x11-drv-via-0.2.2-4.fc8.i386.rpm

u can login as root in one of that "black" pseudo terminal and run "rpm -Uvh /path/to/xorg-x11-drv-via-0.2.2-4.fc8.i386.rpm"

where /path/to is where u downloaded the rpm of via .

The lack of video driver is not the reason for logging in the root account. You must have forgotten the root password you have set during installation. Try to recollect it--Once you log in using root account you can switch to GUI by issuing the command 'init 5' .
