what are the features of a perfect digital distribution service?
- file available in multiple file formats and multiple sizes (no clue why this is not done already, it's so obvious)
- drm free, unsure abt this one, drm may help and facilitate these services, maybe option at a premium
- entire purchase catalogue available via cloud
- re-sale store for used digital items (on steam, great idea), don't see why it should not work on mp3 files and ebooks as well
- group buy price drops (another great idea on steam, would totally work for multi player mobile games, board games)
- regular sales, price drops (itunes ftw)
- content at various price points (major problem atm, the prices are spiralling downards, and the quality is also going down with that)
- monthly, yearly schemes for unlimited content (amazon prime comes close)
- comprehensiveness, content from some publishers are almost impossible to find on legit distributions platforms
- constancy. once you buy something, it should be always available to you even if it gets pulled from the store later
- an official mechanism for account sharing - for a fee, you can attach accounts together and form groups. this helps out families or roomies who dont want to spend on movies and ebooks on seperate devices. without that there is a risk of device ban.
- curated or uncensored... Both have benefits, so this is a q as well, potentially solved with one toggle
any more?
there is no technology stopping the perfect digital distribution service, only licenses
