Use Sentinal Hard Disk Monitor (software) to monitor the condition of your HDDs. We can check the External HDDs by touching 'em so you can say that its getting hot but its okay..i mean at times they reach +55C or higher....

better have any one of the applications installed in your PC to check hard drive stats: *tech-baby.co.cc/3-best-utilities-to-monitor-your-hard-disk-health-at-its-best

it is supposed to get hot. its just an internal hdd with a case and a usb interface. expect it to run at even 50 degrees C. but u shudnt use externals that long . many people have issues of data corruption. externals arent supposed to be used for many hours.

I Talked to Seagate CC service and they told that you can run the external HDs for any period of time, provided they're kept in open and non humid atmosphere.:D

I'm not disagreeing you mate..i'm telling you what seagate service people told me....BTW i'm using my LaCie Externall HD (500GB) constantly for the past 1 year and no problem yet....It remains ON whenever I'm using my system...
Confirmed it again from Seagate CC...upto the temp of 70 C it is perfectly okay..:D
