External HDD on USB 1.1

i made a mistake and posted similar thread in chitchat section.

my friend has a 160GB WD external HDD, he also has a old laptop with USB 1.1, and the harddisk did not work there, but worked on my pc.

now is there any way to make it work on a USB 1.1?

I think the problem is with the port? Because, there should be no issues in connecting a USB 2.0 onto a USB 1.1 device, other than limitation of speed, as far as I know.

Did you try connecting other devices on his USB 1.1??

yes his and my 4GB pen drives work fine on the same laptop on the same port.

In that case, I can only suggest you look back at the hardisk if it specifies,
USB(1.0/2.0)... Personally, I couldn't think of any problem other than the hardisk's capability itself.

Does it detect at least the hardisk, show any error?
