Hi,

I want to purchase a new portable external harddisk, it should have good read/write speed.

capacity : 1 TB

Please help me choose one.

I have chosen this one : Seagate Expansion Falcun 1 TB External Hard Disk - Seagate: Flipkart.com

It is a usb 3 hdd, will it be compatible with Linux (Ubuntu 12.04)? Also I don't have usb 3.0 port in my cabinet so will it be recognised and usable (as USB 2.0) on both OS (Windows and Linux) on my machine?

Yes it is compatible with Linux, and whether you can use this drive both on Windows and Linux, depends on the Filesystem you choose for the drive.

2) You can connect USB 3.0 Harddisk to USB 2.0 port without any issue

Currently almost 99% of the 2.5" external HDDs are coming with USB 3.0 support. For brands, look for WD and Toshiba. As per my observation, they offer slightly higher write speed than the Seagate one.

I'm currently confused between these two. Both are priced around 5k. ADATA one seems more tough. Can't find a quality comparison on the net. Anyone who has used both of them? Which one should I go for?
