i got this mail from edit dns

wonder if this is already posted ...

*** If you have active domains on EditDNS, please read this email very carefully, as it contains very important steps that you will need to take and the future of EditDNS. ***

As some of you know, EditDNS was/is under a major DDOS attack the past several days, wiping out most of our nameservers. We have worked hard to make sure there wasn't a single
time all of them were down and are happy to report, there wasn't a complete outage. Currently, out of the 5 nameservers, 2 of them are still hard down as they are still being attacked,
the other three have been filtered at a firewall level and are able to serve DNS requests without any issues.

As this attack was very big, it was a huge blow to the EditDNS project. It was very time consuming and very expensive to filter out the attack, pay for bandwidth overages, and add new
equipment/servers. Due to the attack, we had to move ns6.us.editdns.net and ns3.eu.editdns.net, as those providers are not willing to do business with us anymore. We found a new home for NS6.

*** The new IP for NS6 is: 64.251.8.113 ***

Please update your records if you use private nameservers. We are still working on a new home for ns3.eu.

Our staff spent countless hours trying to figure out what to do about this and the future of EditDNS and decided it's best to make some major changes from this point forward.
As you know, we have two different types of customers, the free customers (99%), and the paid customers (1%). As much as we love every customer, it's not fair to the paying
customers that their site could have gone down the past few days. DDOS attacks can happen to everyone, but it usually happens to people who host risky sites (malware, casino, warez, etc).
We try to filter it as much as possible as we don't want that kind of content on our network, but sometimes gets by.

At the end of the day, we had two choices -- get rid of all free accounts and make a subscription-based service, or separate the two services to be two different companies. We decided it
wouldn't be fair to our customer base to shut everyone down, so that is how our new service, *free.editdns.net was born.

Before we get too excited about the new system, you need to keep in mind that it's only vanilla DNS, there will be no additional features any longer, as it's too costly to run two different clusters
for every service (mail forwarding, url forwarding, etc). We will be launching DynDNS in the next week or two on *free.editdns.net, but that's as good as it gets. In reality,
free.editdns.net is meant for the basic personal user that has a few domains and wants to run his own DNS, not someone who has a company, or resells our services. We ask that if you need to use our
additional services, to pay the monthly fee, that EditDNS.net costs.

So, in a nutshell, here are the changes:

- You must be an active subscriber or a lifetime member on Jan 1st, 2010 to continue to use *www.editdns.net. All non-subscribers will be automatically disabled on that date.

- In the next week, there will be a way to migrate your domain over to *free.editdns.net, we recommend you do it as soon as possible to prevent any downtime.

- You must keep your subscription active in order to continue to use *www.editdns.net, once your subscription runs out, your domains will be disabled, but can be migrated to *free.editdns.net.

- *free.editdns.net has two nameservers, one in Dallas, one in NJ. You.re allowed to have up to 5 domains for DNS hosting.

- URL Forwarding, e-mail forwarding, etc will be going away for all free accounts and you must be an active subscriber to continue to use them.

- Any new domains will not be able to use these services effective today; any remaining domains still using these services will be able to use them until Jan 1st.

- *www.editdns.net subscribers will be getting better hardware, SLA guarantees and more.

- We recommend you use *www.editdns.net and pay for a subscription, if your domain has any importance to you.

We understand that a lot of people won't be happy with our decision but there's not much else we can do at this point.

If you are not happy with our decision and want to leave us, we completely understand and there are 2 or 3 other DNS providers out there that can suit your needs, we wish you the best.

For the rest of you, look forward to many changes ahead!
