This is a problem with DVD writers. The quality of the writing matters a lot.Maybe the DVD Drive in your Lappy cannot read them as they are burnt.CHIP,Digit are Stamped and not burnt hence they will read in any DVD Drive.
Thats all i can think of right now.

OK but whts the solution for it ? i cant even burn any dvd coz it cant read blank dvd also. I tried every company ie sony, moserbaer, imation, and also cheap quality media.
Also the writer can read as well as write cds.

Hmm.. Why do I think the above posts are contradictory??
You say the Writer just doesn't read any blanks OR old written DVDs (burned using the very burner) ?
But it does recognise CHIP/Digit DVDs..
Seems the Writer's days are numbered .. :-o . As a last resort you could try updating the firmware( but that'd deem any sort of warranty void)
If the Writer's in its warranty period, try RMAing it.

Try ramming ur laptop if it's under warrenty. Then get it fixed or get a replacement.Cause that's what i did when i burnt my graphics card(i Overclocked it).Yet they replaced it.

I also upgraded the firmware, but no use. Also its out of warranty, so if i go to service center they will charge for it.

Are i told na, it doesnt detect blank dvds, the pc just hangs and after 15-20 min it says to "insert dvd in h:" !

Lets see, or the last option is to go to the service center. :(

Hi,

Don't pay money yet, first of all DVD-R are pretty chip and it is better to buy a new one then pay $50 on an old one which might not work again.
Second I had some problem with my CD-R and I asked in a free tech support. They gave me a solution that work for my problem (Updated the driver for xp).

Here is the page for DVD burners troubleshooting support

I hope you'll find a solution

Marcella
