I had a samsung ts h552u dvd writer which took 40 minutes to burn a dvd, slowly the time increased to more than an hour and finally stopped reading too...so i bought a asus dvd writer 2 days back , now this is takin more than an hour to write a dvd nd for the last 2 dvd's it gave a burn error , half way thru....

i use intel 915 motherboard
512 ddr ram
3 ghz processor
windows xp sp2
80 gb hard disk

thers only one ide channel in my board , and i checked the status of it in device manager
the current transfer mode for device 0 is PIO
for device 1 it is Ultra Dma Mode 4

i even changed the cables , but it doesnt seem to help

Can someone help me

assuming U r using Nero.
enable chache files less than 64KB option while burning..
This will make nero to burn larger files directly on CD/DVD instead of copying it to temp directory.
Hope this helps

do "determine speed " (option jst available over "write" under last tab )in nero before burning DVD u will come to know if there is any problem in source............it takes 8-9 mins to burn DVD at 8X speed

rt click on "my computer" click properties>hardware>Device manager double click on IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers check all the ide channels such that they are in DMA mode

also you may use a lens cleaner to clean your lens...and also check for master/slave...if you have multiple drives and check if both the drives are detected in bios at startup, then try switching the primary boot device and see if it works

hey thnx for ur replies guys

@lucky star

i tried the tool

now the current transefer mode of device 0 is ultra dma 5
nd device 1 is ultra dma 4
i burnt 2 dvds after that @8x and it took 33 minutes and 24 minutes respectively, guess its a bit slower than normal.
i'm using nero 7 essentials
but after this dma reset thing my comp boots faster too, it has improved perfomance considerably...
