Hi.
I am facing a very irritating problem.
I use my Sony DRU-800A (firmware revision KY06) to write DVD's.
The problem is, the DVD's I have written using my writer don't run on my Sony CRX-320E combo drive (firmware revision NYK5). But they do run on my DRU-800A or other friends drives.

My
Sony CRX-320E combo drive is able to read & write all CD-R/RW's and read most DVD-R's except the ones burned by me. It is able to read the DVD-RW's burned by me

I use blank 8x & 16x Moserbaer DVD-R's for writing.

Initially I thought that the media might not be right.
But then I tried running the same 16x Moserbaer DVD-R's written by a friend's Sony DRU-810A and they run on both of my drives correctly.

Previously while facing the problem, I had connected a 40-pin EIDE cable that came with either of the Sony drives.
Then I tried connecting an 80-pin EIDE cable but am still facing the problem.

Initially I used Nero 6.6 to write my DVD's but now I use Nero 7.5 to write.
When I check my DVD's using Nero CD-DVD Speed v4.7.0.0, it shows the Recorder Information as "recorded with Sony DW-Q28A KY06".

Kindly tell me what could be the problem.

Right off the assembly line
this is a strange problem, but u can do nothing by changing the cables(EIDE).
I would suggest u to upgrade the firmware of Sony CRX-320E Combo, coz its a bit older
>try changing the media

Well, the firmware installed is the latest. I checked it on Sony's support site. And I have tried using Moserbaer Pro, Writex & Benq media but the problem persists.

is it possible that ur combo has some kind of region lock?????
It's currently set on Region 1.
But other DVD's are running fine on it.
I don't set any region code on the dvd's I write.

The problem is due to faulty SMPS as I later found out.
I got the SMPS fixed and the problem was gone.
But then SMPS again developed a fault & again the Combo drive went berserk.
So SMPS is definitely the culprit here.
But why only my Combo drive? Why not my DVD-RW too?

Actually, I'm reporting what was the end-result(s) of all the solutions provided.
I was pretty busy. I just left my job, so thought why not help others.

I did it so that other users who might have/are suffering the same should know whether the solutions/tips/tricks worked or not.
