i had windows 2000 server and XP as dual boot....

then i installed another copy of XP to test some s/w which i know wud create some problem or the other ..... (so i didnt install it in the orginal XP which i was using)

then as expected it did create trouble ...

so i formatted the fresh copy of XP frm the older copy of XP ... now when i boot ... i get 3 options ...
2 XP
and windows 2000 server ...

how do i get rid of the second XP which i have removed

all 2 OSs were installed on 3 separate drives ...say C: D: E:
C: windows 2000 server
D: original XP
E: fresh copy of XP..

plz help...

first enable showing of hidden files and folders, even system folders, from tools-->folder options
go to c drive and find boot.ini. right click it and uncheck its read only attribute.
now open it
there will be three lines like this
Code:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional"
c:\="windows 2000 server"

delete the line that corresponds to the XP that u want to remove. SInce you want to remove the one from E: , delete the corresponding line. here it is
Code:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional"
you can identify this because partition 1 is c drive, partition 2 is d drive and so on
save the file and restart
