Disk boot failure

My friend for some reason had disconnected his IDE drive from his PC for an hour when he tried to reconnect the same it gave a disk boot error, it is the only drive connected to the PC (Primary master) other is his DVD ROM. He has some important files in his c:\ drive so i don't want to format his PC. we have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the IDE cable several times, same error comes,previously it was working fine

look in the bios if the board detect the HDD

if not, then
# try connecting to Primary Master
# check your IDE cabe and power

try connecting only the HDD and remove the DVD drive.......check if HDD is getting detected
