Development PC configuration

Right off the assembly line
Hi,

I am a software engineer working on .Net technologies. I am looking for a Desktop.

I require a configuration with Core i5/i7 with 8GB/16GB of Memory and 1TB HDD.

Please help me in configuring the same. I am also open with Bundled PCs from DELL if same is available at competitive price. My budget is around 50K.

I will be running following always on that machine and my current machine hands up now and then:
  • Web servers (one or more running concurrently): IIS, Apache Tomcat for Java, Apache for PHP, Node JS
  • Sometime Middlewares like Oracle Service Bus
  • Two or more IDE concurrently: Visual Studio, STS
  • SQL Server: MS SQL, MongoDB and MySQL (all running always)
  • Multiple Virtual Boxes always (WS2008, WS2012, Ubuntu)
  • SQL Server Management Studio
  • Sometime Adobe Photoshop and Flash
  • And lots of Chrome tabs
  • And if possible my favorite NFS should also play comfortably

Current machine config:
  • Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G645 @ 2.9GHz 2.9Ghz
  • 4GB RAM (3.87 GB)
  • 500GB HDD

Also guide how much virtual memory I should put on that new machine (I am planning partition as 300{System},300{VMs},400{Data})?
Would it be good to go with Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012?

Thanks,
Durgesh Chaudhary.

I could not respond earlier as I was committed in office task. Sory for that, please find response below:

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Stupid answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work. Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.')
Ans:
  • Web servers (one or more running concurrently): IIS, Apache Tomcat for Java, Apache for PHP, Node JS
  • Sometime Middlewares like Oracle Service Bus
  • Two or more IDE concurrently: Visual Studio, STS
  • SQL Server: MS SQL, MongoDB and MySQL (all running always)
  • Multiple Virtual Boxes always (WS2008, WS2012, Ubuntu)
  • SQL Server Management Studio
  • Sometime Adobe Photoshop and Flash
  • And lots of Chrome tabs
  • And if possible my favorite NFS should also play comfortably

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then mention this too.
Ans: 50K yes I can extend

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: I have no idea what overclocking is, tried reading but could not grasp the concept

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Asked this as well in main question, preferrably WIN 8 or WIN 2012 (Both 64 bit)

5. How much hard drive space is needed?
Ans: 1TB

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention which screen size and resolution do you want. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, again mention the size and resolution of monitor you have.
Ans: Yes around 19"

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy or which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: None

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: Within a month

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Yes but 7years back

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Delhi, will buy Locally, open to flipkart (only flipkart)

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans: Detailed explanation in main question.

I do not know why, but I am inclined towards Intel Processor and not AMD ones.

I can extend upto 70K. Yes 16GB and slots to upgrade upto 64GB would be good (for near future). NFS, I am not sure, But I used to play UnderGround 2, will continue that one only (It is only because I feel nostalgic while playing UnderGround 2)

Get a Xeon Proccy.
CM PSU ain't good enough, get separate on Seasonic or at least Antec one.
Also drop GT620 & get a GT630

Why? What;s the problem with Xeon. Xeon E3 1230 V3 is just an i7 4770 without IGP. You'll get it for 17k which is 5k less than i7 4770. And included CM PSU's aren;t any good.

Get this instead:

Intel Xeon E3 1230 V3 (17,090)
Cooler Master Hyper 101 (1500)
Gigabyte GA-P85-D3 (8500)
G.Skill RipjawsX 1600 MHz 8 GB x2 (12,000)

Currently I require IGP as am planning to purchase graphics card later also more inclined toward i series rather than xeon. Regarding PSU no idea, please elaborate.
Read somewhere corsair are better on think digit forum so selecting that.
Agreed and will upgrade Zotac GT 630 (if it is better)
Not going for SSD because of cost
WD Blue has a very bad market response so going for WD Black (though it is a bit costly)
BenQ after sale support not good in Delhi as compared to DELL.

No idea what my current Motherboard is as I am using it at office and I do not know how to check that without opening the cabinet.

Yeah but xeon will save you about 4-5k add it to another 4-5kk you are planning to shell out in near future you colud get a decent card in 10k range & BTW xeon is same as i7 4770 so why not make wiser choice

It's all about the OEM's of PSU's recently IMO corsair has switched OEM's so better if keep away, Seasonic PSU are very nice BTW.

xeon e3 1245 v3 has igpu and is avaiable for 19k.

sorry, did not get that. dont judge the brand.instead judge the products. corsair makes good products but not always ;)

i think , an ssd will be useful for your kind of works.

black is better of-course. blue is also very good but with 2 years of warranty. if you can get black, then go for it. blue is not bad.
BenQ after sale support not good in Delhi as compared to DELL.

you can consider aoc i2269vwm or aoc i2369vm. dont know about after sale service in your area.

download speccy and see the mobo description.

@op; so you want to get an i7 4770 (22k) because of igp and get a graphic card (3k) later (total 25k) instead of xeon (17k) and a graphic card (3k) right now (total 20k)? You sure you know 20k is less than 25k?
