My Dell XPS M1530 's warranty expired some 50 days ago.
Now i have a battery related problem.
till today evening before the power cut, battery meter was showing 100% charged, but the instant there was a power cut switched off... i mean not hibernated or shut down as it normally does when the battery power is low it just died. I checked the battery gauge under the battery, it was showing full. But when i restarted it, battery meter said ony 5% remaining (i started it on the battery) so it again got shut down. Now the battery gauge was showing only 1 led of 5.
so now, may battery is completely dead, laptop works only when plugged it. The battery indicator blinks (in cycle) amber 4 times then a single blue blink. According to the manual it means battery is too hot to work. I've even cooled my laptop by placing it directly infront of the A.C but the battery does not respond. What should i do????
Plz Help!!!!!
thanx in advance.. :)

ITS DEAD
i had a problem with my 6 cell one too. got it replaced as if was under warranty.

buying a new one seems ur only option. Even if u extend ur warranty now, they have to reinspect ur system and theyll find the battery dead..so it wont work
u shudve extended ur warranty before it lapsed.

a new one is bout 6~7 and bout 12~13k for a 9 cell.

6-7K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thats outrageous!!!!!
WTH!!!!!
i thought i'll get it for about 4K....
Damn....

BTW i have few more queries,
R u 100% sure that the problem i'm facing is a battery fault, not the charger or any other malfunctioning components?? becoz batteries dont usually just die in 13-14 months and that to without showing any sort of aging or malfunctioning symptoms. one day its fine... charging 100% but next day its gone....
i would also like to know (assuming my battery did die due to aging) where did i went wrong that myt battery life reduced that much?????
i've heard that a battery lasts for around 300 charging and discharging cycles. I hardly ever took my laptop outside my house so its always on power supply (i use battery only when there is a power cut)....
Can overheating be the culprit????
According to Dell's manual 4 times amber battery indicator blinking means battery is too hot to charge or discharge... My comp's configuration is quite heavy... It does produce a lot of heat, CPU temp is always greater than 60 degree Celsius. even reaches 95 degree Celsius during gaming)
So can heating cause the battery to loose its charge???

Thanx in advance..... :)

my battery too was working fine till one day, i left my lappy under direct sunlight in my car, and when i touched it it ws burning hot, thought lappy was off. It dint turn on, and only started after pluggin in, and battery wont charge beyond 24%.

Ive heard that battery life decreases considerably when u use ur lappy as a desktop, ie working whole time with power connected.
its better if u use a UPS and remove the battery from lappy in such cases. lappy cxan work w/o bettery if u have an uninterupted power. u can removce the battery while lapy is on, as well.

and the temps uve mentioned is too high..even after hours of cpu torture tests, my temps wont be beyond 60c. And max GPU temps during 3DM 06 bench was 74c, and that too under extreme ocing.

Thanx again for replying....
How long did your original battery last??? and your new battery, is it any better???
Actually whats worrying me is that this battery problem will it keep coming every year... I've never heard anyone fussing about dead batteries that often...
BTW i talked to a Dell rep he told me that i can get a new battery for 5,500/- but unfortunately they r out of stock, so i have to wait for about 2 weeks... :(
Can a genuine Dell battery (6-cell, 56Wh) be bought form computer hardware stores (like from Nehru place in new Delhi)??????

Also i'm very surprised to find that your CPU temp hardly crosses 60 degree Celsius!!! Rite now, i'm listening some songs on WMP, working on firefox, downloading stuff and its already 60 degrees... (I use fanspeed 4.35 to monitor cpu temp). During gaming sessions like NFS-MW i cant describe how hot my lappy becomes.
i have 2.4GHz C2D, Nvidia 8600GT, 7200rpm HDD, 4 gigs DDR2 ram under the hood. Till now i thought its normal for a laptop to get hot like this, but what u're telling me has really bumped me... I'll be more careful in the future...

I heard laptop batteries should be replaced every 3-4 years average. Strange to hear this problem.

My 9 cell battery too got the same problem just after the expiration of my one year warranty, It was charging up to 46%; now it dropped to 6%.
