So I have dell credit and am looking at updating my laptop. I would like to stay in the 1500us budget but can spend a little more

I currently have a studio xps 1645 (1st gen i7 quad core, 500gb HD, radeon 4430 GPU, 4gb ram)

I am looking for something smaller 15in or less with better battery life and performance.

xps 15

3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3612QM processor (6M Cache, up to 3.1 GHz)
Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
Silver Anodized Aluminum and 15.6" FHD 1080p Truelife WLED Display and Skype-Certified HD Webcam
8GB3 DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz
750GB 7200 HDD with 32GB mSATA
Slot Load Blu-ray Disc BD-Combo (Reads BD and Writes to DVD/CD)
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 640M with 2GB GDDR5 VRAM
1 Year Premium Protection Package - America's Best Standard Protection
5.79 lbs

inspiron 15r SE

3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3612QM processor (6M Cache, up to 3.1 GHz)
Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English
15.6" Full High Definition (1080p) LED Display
8GB3 Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz
1TB 5400RPM SATA HDD + 32GB mSATA SSD w/Intel Smart Response
Blu-ray Disc (BD) Combo (Reads BD and Writes to DVD/CD)
AMD Radeon™ HD 7730M 2GB
90 days Premium Phone Support + 1 Year In-Home Service after Remote Diagnosis
6.09 lbs

I guess I have to figure out if its worth the extra money for the better designed XPS and GPU

opinions or suggestions?

Your budget 1500USD*55=82,500 INR.
Dell Inspiron 15R SE laptops can handle decent amount of gaming , without getting hot enough unlike Samsung 550P , thus not causing throttling.
It will also save you some bucks , if you want.

Though , if you are looking for FHD with 7200RPM SATA, then its not there in 15" in India. :(

It really depends what level of gaming are you looking for.

I have looked at the xps 14. But from bench mark scoring I've seen the dual core i7 ivy bridge gets lower scores then my current first gen i7 quad core. I7 720

@ 1500$ u can buy a alienware m14x (The Dell Online Store: Build Your System)

You also have an option of y580 from lenovo which gives gtx660 but heard it heats up a lot.
