At this point of time i think, none of the Intel processors would give you the performance ad value for money that an AMD proccy would give!

DDR3 is not worth the money at the moment. Little performance increase from DDR2 with a heavy price tag! :))

Intel Core i7 920 + MSI X58 Pro-E - 26200 (14900+11300)
Kingston / Corsair DDR-3 1333MHZ 2 GB RAM - 2400/2700 (2gb is enough as of now. I've never seen my PC using more than 2gb of ddr2 RAM, if necessary buy 1600 MHZ, which will be slightly costlier)
Western Digital 500 GB - 2675
Palit GTS 250/ Powercolor 4870 - 8725/9000
Zebronics BlackJack - 3000 (If not available, any other zebronics PRO series cabinet)

Zebronics Platinum Series PSU (based on ur card purchase) - Buy this PSU if its cheaper than Cooler Master or Corsair. (I'm having a Platinum 400W - and I've got not problem -BEST VFM, even if u get problems, zebronics has nice replacement policy)

The total sums up to approximately 50K. If you are going to buy this RIG you might wait for sometime to see whether the prices are going down or some other new technology comes from Intel bashing these models :)

@vensanga, for Intel you better wait just few more weeks or maybe days. core i5 are i3 are two be released.

Right now, for your budget AMD gives better bang for buck. If you are not gpoing to game much but watch lot of videos, the config need to be changed a lot to make it a HomeTheatre PC). let us know how your friend is going to use it.

eg: a HTPC config with decent graphic card inside 40k (CPU only)

AMD Phenom II X2 550:5.5k or Phenom II X4 920: 9.5k
Gigabyte MA78GM-US2H:4.2k-4.5k
Corsair xms2 2x2GB DDR2 800MHz: 3k
Palit GTS250 512MB : 7k
ASUS Xonar D2X with DTH and Dolby decoding: 9k or Creative Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ XtremeGamer: 5.5k
Seagate 7200.12 sata 2 500Gb : 2.5k
samsung dvd burner: 1.1k
Logitech X-540: 5.5k
Corsair VX450W: 4.2k
CoolerMaster Elite 335: 2.5k

if you go with Phenom II X4, go for xtremegamer soundcard
if you go with Phenom II X2, go for asus xonar d2x soundcard.

at that budget, AMD gives best bang for buck, unless you do lot of video processing (editing and movie creation).

FYI, Q8400 supports virtualization. Just now checked out the update in AnandTech.
In other thread, hell knight had mentioned it wont support virtualization.

INFO ON i3, i5, i7

Desktop Processor Cores Threads Turbo
Intel Core i7 4 8 Yes
Intel Core i5 2 or 4 4 Yes
Intel Core i3 2 or 4 4 No

Only the Core i7 is allowed to run in a LGA-1366 socket, however there will be LGA-1156 i7, i5 and i3CPUs . The number of memory channels and the presence of a QPI link does not determine branding. In other words, Lynnfield will be both a Core i7 and a Core i5 depending on the SKU.

The LGA-1156 Core i7s will be the 8xx series, while the LGA-1366 i7s will be the 9xx series. The i5s will be the 6xx series and the i3s will be the 5xx series.

Four cores and HT enabled with turbo mode yields you a Core i7 on the desktop. If you only have support for up to 4 threads then you've got a Core i5; take away turbo and you have a Core i3.

Sorry to disappoint on the release dates. They have been pushed back to Q4 2009, due to recession and all. That's Jan 2010.

Phenom II will hold good till the at least mid 2010. Jan 2010 means, Feb in India with a very high price tag. Then the markets will settle after 3-4 months, with some price drops. That's almost June 2010. It's a long time!

We are not hardcore gamers so we decided to go for Intel than AMD..But i was wondering can i get a DDR3 Mobo and RAM with my budget with a decent graphics...And were pretty satisfied with Core2duo procesor than Quad an i7 series..but if there is not much difference in price that's fine..

If you gonna get a DDR3- moBO its better u buy a X58 board. But then, there wont be any support for future cpu's like i5,i7 etc. For that you have to go for a P55 board...

So better stick on with DDR2 board and DDR2 ram!

If you gonna buy E7500, please don't. At that same price, AMD's X49650 is great bang for buck CPU. Go for INTEL, if u gonna buy E8400/E8500 or Q8400!

P55 motherboards are LGA1160. So current Core 2 Duo would hold good in that board. Also most P45 boards are mostly DDR2! So if you plan to go for DDR3 you have to go for X48 mobos! Which is a waste of total money just like DDR3 now. DDR3 is just a fancy term with a decent RAM costing upto around 6K-8K. An X48 mobo starts from 12K and good one's are 14K-15K. If you are looking for just a good PC then go for the one desibond told, just i think GTX 260 is a better choice than GTS 250!

DDR3 is useless unless you go for Core i7 which will be overkill for your needs. Go with dessibond's config. AMD gives the best bang for buck in the market currently. Get the Palit GTS250 or the ATI HD4770. Both this cards are value graphics card which can play all the games at good resolutions and settings and don't have much problems.

Ok then eyes close on DDR3 mobo and RAM...But am not sure abt AMD though..i myself use my Pc for downloading movies etc..and used to keep my Pc turn on for likeovernight and the whole day...
One of my friend turn off his Pc like 24hours a week...
For this purpose am afraid that there will be problem with AMD as we all agreed and choose Intel..Am a little bit confused..maybe we should not me in a hurry and wait for sometime and the price may even fall...

If you can wait, then thats great. i3/i5 prices may be lowered.
Since u r saying, the system will be always downloading, I guess you are using ur PC as a multimedia PC. Then there is no necessity for Higher End CPU's - jus buy now a E7500(if u insist on intel) or X49650 and settle in for other multimedia components like fullHD monitor and spks etc.,
