Q: Everybody thinks you overpaid for Corus. Your comment?

Mr. Ratan Tata : It would have taken us several years to build a steelmaker with 19 million-ton production capacity from scratch, leave alone establishing it in Europe with a brand name. We feel confident the synergies of the two companies will be quite substantial, and we have satisfied ourselves that the company has in no way jeopardized the interests of the shareholders in this acquisition. I believe that over the next few years, we will all come to think that this was a visionary move.

According to reports the TATA's paid very close to the upper limit that they has set for themselves...

those are only reports ... now ne 1 can say "we set 610/share as the limit and got it done in 608/share" ... thts bull sh!t .... ratan tata is 1 of the few business men who have integrity written all over them ... if he says they not reached the limit it means they wud hv pushed higher ... if tht were the cse he wud hav clearly stated tht they almost reached the limit ....

And unlike some other big corporates in India, Tata believes strongly in social upliftment and has a tradition of giving back to the society. Sir Ratan Tata Trust is one of the examples.
